Mark Passwaters of Rivals.com reported Garrett is in uniform and warming up ahead of the team's clash with the Bulldogs. Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin told CBS Sports Network the defensive lineman would only play on third downs, per Travis L. Brown of My Aggie Nation.
On Oct. 29, My Aggie Nation tweeted out a picture of Garrett wearing a walking boot on the field during the pregame warm-ups:
Garrett Among Country's Best Pass-Rushers
Garrett did suffer a high ankle sprain during Texas A&M's game against Arkansas on September 24, and he did not play the following week against South Carolina.
Garrett, a junior, has established himself as a bonafide star in his three seasons with the Aggies. In his first two campaigns, Garrett compiled 23 sacks, 32.5 tackles for loss, 110 tackles and five forced fumbles. He was an Associated Press All-America Third-Team selection in 2015 and a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award.
In 2016, he's registered four sacks and 21 total tackles.
Garrett has been so dominant, Bleacher Report's Matt Miller made him the second overall pick in his October mock draft to the Tennessee Titans, writing:
"Make no mistake—Garrett is the best player in this class right now.
At 275 pounds, Garrett bends the edge like he weighs 255. He's also now bringing power with finesse moves when asked to beat tackles to the quarterback. For those who complained Garrett feasted on weaker competition in 2015, he posted a sack, three hits and seven hurries when facing future NFL left tackle Conor McDermott of UCLA in Week 1.
Many will want to compare Garrett to Jadeveon Clowney, and athletically both are rare talents, but Garrett's work ethic and production are much better than Clowney's ever were at South Carolina.
"
Quite simply, Garrett is a game-changing talent, and one who can't be replaced on the Aggies' talented defense. There isn't another Garrett on the roster, quite frankly, though James Lockhart and Jarrett Johnson will likely be utilized opposite of Daeshon Hall.
But injuries are now becoming a storyline in Garrett's young career. He's already missed time in 2016, missed a game in his freshman season and had surgery on his hand in 2015. The Aggies will be hoping this latest injury is a minor speed bump for Garrett and won't keep him out of commission for an extended period of time.
