WWE Raw: Burning Questions to Address After October 3 Show

Ryan DilbertOct 4, 2016

Lost in the raucous celebration of Sasha Banks reclaiming the Women's Championship on WWE Raw is the concern for how long she and Charlotte can keep up their full-tilt, high-risk style.

Much like Edge and Christian, The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy Boyz did for over 15 years, Raw's women are looking to force the audience and WWE to pay attention to them by employing a devil-may-care approach to wrestling.

Can Banks' back hold up as she continues to crash from great heights? Are Charlotte, The Boss and their peers bound to shorten their careers in the name of making an impact right now?

That is the most sobering of the questions that Monday's Raw generated.

The rest of the uncertainties heading out of WWE's trip to Los Angeles are storyline-centered. Emma is apparently poised for a gimmick repackage. Titus O'Neil is becoming some sort of entrepreneur. Braun Strowman is set to ditch his jobber-heavy diet.

Transformations are on the way for these Superstars, but it's not yet clear what they will look like at the end of those processes.

Who Is Emmalina?

Forced to the sidelines for months with a back injury, Emma is now poised to join the Raw roster.

WWE aired a video package of the former NXT star that showed her posing in bikinis and workout gear. It promised that she would be premiering soon, but with a new name: Emmalina.

Emma had flourished as a heel before her injury, nailing the transition from her initial bubbly, awkward persona to a cold-hearted, selfish villain. To redo her act already is an odd move.

Fightful is among those concerned with the change:

How Emmalina will differ from Emma isn't clear yet. Will she be a woman focused on her looks, someone who pines for her next moment in front of a camera?

Or were these images supposed to represent what she will leave behind when she becomes Emmalina?

Either way, it will be great to have her on TV again. The women's division needs depth, and she has long been an underused part of the roster.

Fans can't help but be nervous, though. When Emmalina emerges from her chrysalis, she may be sporting an ill-fitting gimmick.

Where Is This Titus O'Neil Angle Heading?

O'Neil is undergoing his own character shift. Before his bout with Sami Zayn, O'Neil announced the launch of "the Titus brand."

He talked of how he would affect the fashion and entertainment worlds but didn't get specific. Following his loss to Zayn, he held a press conference that only Tom Phillips attended.

WWE is intent on making something out of O'Neil. It seems to have abandoned O'Neil's feud with Darren Young that never clicked, but here is the powerhouse again, getting some attention from WWE Creative.

His latest attempt will give his character some added layers. How a wannabe mogul will fit into the WWE landscape, however, is unclear, but plenty of guys on the roster would kill for the opportunity to try to make that shtick work.

Is O'Neil going to be delusional about his success the way The Miz believes himself to be an A-list actor? Is this going to be a comedy act or the backbone of a heel persona?

Regardless of what happens and how this turns out, at least there is more intrigue surrounding O'Neil than normal for the moment.

Who Will Braun Strowman Face Next?

Strowman lengthened his list of little-known victims on Monday night. He demolished Chase Silver, the latest enhancement talent to oppose the beastly bruiser.

It didn't work out well for Silver. Strowman crushed him in little time and then demanded better competition in the future. He threatened Raw general manager Mick Foley, promising havoc should he not receive a stiffer challenge next week.

Strowman's biggest prey since starting his recent dominant stretch has been Sin Cara. That can't be who Foley sends at him.

Who will step up to Strowman, though? Will the powerhouse feast on undercard stars such as Curtis Axel or R-Truth, or will he get a more formidable rival right away?

Brandon Stroud of UPROXX threw out the possibility of announcer Byron Saxton getting involved:

Saxton has introduced Strowman's foes before every bout. He was a wrestler in the WWE developmental system before moving to the commentary desk. But a collision with Saxton would presumably be brief.

One has to wonder what the long-term plan for Strowman is, be it as a championship contender or sideshow attraction.

Are the Women Being Too Reckless in the Ring?

Banks and Charlotte killed it in Monday's main event, but one had to worry that they might kill each other in the process.

Charlotte slammed The Boss onto the ropes from a great distance. She also soared off the top rope with a corkscrew moonsault to the outside that nearly missed Banks completely. This has been the norm between these two.

Their SummerSlam match made one cringe several times.

The results have been exciting, but one pays for these kinds of spots. Ask Finn Balor, who relinquished his Universal Championship after a crash into the guardrail separated his shoulder. Ask Seth Rollins, who left Clash of Champions with a busted rib following a top-rope gutbuster.

Or better yet, ask Edge, who ended a career filled with ladder matches and spectacular dives at just age 38 due to spinal stenosis.

Banks and Charlotte are trying to make their marks by any means necessary, but there has to be a balance between thrilling and safe.

Hall of Famer Jim Ross said it best on the Q&A section of his website: "Slowing down and eliminating some risky moves will help everyone in the business last longer and have more successful careers." The entire roster would do well to heed that advice.
