Antonio Brown, Eli Rogers, Sammie Coates' Post-Week 1 Fantasy Advice

Joseph ZuckerSep 12, 2016

Fantasy football owners who started Pittsburgh Steelers wideout Antonio Brown are ending Week 1 on a high.

Brown and Eli Rogers both played key roles as the Steelers earned a 38-16 win Monday night over the Washington Redskins. Even Sammie Coates got in on some of the fun:

Brown picked up right where he left off in 2015, when he finished with 1,834 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. His celebration game is also on point after his twerk earned a 15-yard penalty:

Brown's fantasy outlook remains unchanged following Monday night. He's one of the best wideouts in the league and a must-start in every format.

An injury to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is the only thing that could potentially limit his value. In Roethlisberger's absence last year, Brown's numbers suffered, and a similar drop could be in store should Big Ben go down again.

Otherwise, the only time you should consider benching Brown is in Week 8, when the Steelers have their bye.

Rogers and Coates, on the other hand, are much bigger fantasy wild cards. With Martavis Bryant suspended indefinitely and Markus Wheaton still dealing with a shoulder injury, the opportunity is there for Rogers or Coates to take a relatively big role in the passing game.

Coates could be the bigger threat down the field, filling the role vacated by Bryant. But drops have been a problem for the second-year pass-catcher going back to his days at Auburn. Rogers' TD catch was a direct result of a mistake by Coates:

It's still a bit early to consider adding either player to your fantasy team. Just ask any owners who took the leap of adding Travis Benjamin or Jerricho Cotchery after they had strong opening weeks in 2015.

Rogers didn't appear in a single regular-season game last year, while Coates caught just one pass for 11 yards. Wait until one or both receivers string two or three strong games together before targeting them on the waiver wire.
