Terminally Ill Grandmother to Fulfil Wish After Fans Organise Liverpool Tickets
A 67-year-old Irish grandmother diagnosed with terminal lung cancer will fulfil an ambition of watching Liverpool at Anfield when they face Leicester City on Saturday.
As reported by the Herald (h/t Luke Byrne of the Belfast Telegraph), Marie Wright will travel to Merseyside for the clash with the Premier League champions after two Irish supporters clubs got in touch via Facebook.
Per Byrne, the lifelong Liverpool supporter was initially scheduled to make the trip to Anfield for the match with Sunderland on November 26. However, it’s noted she was encouraged by doctors to make the visit as quickly as she could, prompting the campaign to get her to Liverpool for the visit of the champions.

"We set up a Facebook page, Marie's Wish, to see if maybe we could get her to meet some of the players, but then the guys heard about it and got in touch to say they had organised a wheelchair access ticket and a minder," said Ray Wright, Marie’s son.
It’ll be the first time she’s seen the Reds in action in the flesh, having never been able to make it to a live match.

"It was an unbelievable gesture,” said her daughter Janice. “She can walk with a stick but if she had to climb stairs in the stadium that would have been hard."
It’s noted by Byrne that the family are hopeful she can meet some of the Liverpool squad on the day, with manager Jurgen Klopp said to be a particular favourite. "I think she has a crush on him," her son revealed.
