Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Gunners Rumours, Potential Signings After Deadline

Tom SunderlandSep 4, 2016

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reportedly informed Jack Wilshere he's "playing for his future" at the Emirates Stadium after the midfielder joined Bournemouth on loan. Meanwhile, the Gunners have returned to discussions regarding Mesut Ozil's contract.

Wilshere moved to the Vitality Stadium on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day, but it wasn't all smiles for the England international after the Sun's Neil Ashton reported Wenger had stern words for his protege:

"

Wenger told him to see the chance to become a more rounded footballer and use the experience at Bournemouth wisely.

The Arsenal chief, who hates confrontation with his players, remains a massive fan of the £80,000-a-week star. Their conversation was the talk of Arsenal’s training ground before Wilshere sealed his move to Bournemouth on deadline day.

It's added the player-manager duo had a "grown-up phone conversation" prior to Wilshere's south-coast switch, and it appears the outcome was a decision that Wilshere's time would be best spent away from north London.

Not everyone was a fan of the temporary move, however, as former England and Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes revealed his issues with Wilshere's decision, per Sky Sports (via Bleacher Report UK):

The one thing it seems the 24-year-old is guaranteed under new manager Eddie Howe is playing time, provided he can maintain the necessary fitness to show he's reliable enough to back it up.

WhoScored.com recently pointed out just how little Wilshere has been involved with the Arsenal first team in recent years, making just over 100 appearances in a little over six years, an average of 17 appearances per term:

Reports of Wenger's ultimatum to Wilshere suggest the manager has finally grown tired with his player's constant injury struggles, and failure to prove himself at Bournemouth could see his Arsenal future cast into doubt.

By the time Wilshere returns to the Emirates, he'll have less than a year remaining on his Gunners deal, and it seems his team-mates have taken little time to forget about him since he made the move away, Ozil in particular:

The Germany international told German newspaper Express he wishes to assume Wilshere's No. 10 mantle at the Emirates Stadium before revealing contract talks are back underway (h/t Goal's Russell Greaves).

The playmaker confessed negotiations were on hold during UEFA Euro 2016, but admitted they're now back underway, without giving away too much as to his hopes for what will materialise:

"

I have a contract until 2018. We have had discussions, but they were suspended for the European Championship. I wanted to focus at this time only on the national team. Now we look to continue the negotiations.

In football, you can never say never. You don't know what will happen. I had a good time in Germany. That was a lot of fun. Eventually [moving to America] could be an option. I have fun everywhere. My fans know that I like to spend my vacation in Los Angeles, because the city inspires me.

"

German daily Bild reported in August that Ozil "would jump at the chance of returning to former club Real Madrid, but Arsenal fans will be thankful he remained at the club beyond the deadline (h/t Sun's Tom Sheen).

With Wilshere no longer present, handing Ozil his favoured No. 10 jersey may be an easy route to appeasing his talents for the time being, although he may require some more substantial rewards to extend his deal.
