Bastian Schweinsteiger in Manchester United Premier League Squad After Exit Talk
Bastian Schweinsteiger has been named in Manchester United's 25-man Premier League squad for the 2016/17 season despite being told he has no future at the club by manager Jose Mourinho.
Rob Dawson of the Manchester Evening News reported as much on Friday:

Per Dawson and Rob Pollard for the MEN (h/t the Mirror), Mourinho had said it would be "very difficult" for the German to feature this season, with five players ahead of him in the pecking order for two central-midfield positions.
Per the Premier League, every club must name a squad of up to 25 senior players for the season, which cannot be amended until January.
Eight of those must be "homegrown," which means they have spent at least three seasons at an English or Welsh club prior to turning 21.
Under-21 players—in this case born in 1995 onward—do not need to be named, and managers can use as many of them as they want.
Here is United's senior squad for the 2016-17 season, with Mourinho filling 24 of his 25 spaces:
| Eric Bailly | Jesse Lingard* |
| Daley Blind | Juan Mata |
| Michael Carrick* | Henrikh Mkhitaryan |
| Matteo Darmian | Paul Pogba* |
| David De Gea | Marcos Rojo |
| Memphis Depay | Sergio Romero |
| Sadiq El-Fitouri | Wayne Rooney* |
| Marouane Fellaini | Morgan Schneiderlin* |
| Ander Herrera | Bastian Schweinsteiger |
| Zlatan Ibrahimovic | Chris Smalling* |
| Sam Johnstone* | Antonio Valencia |
| Phil Jones* | Ashley Young* |
| Cameron Borthwick-Jackson | Marcus Rashford |
| Tim Fosu-Mensah | Luke Shaw |
| Anthony Martial | Axel Tuanzebe |
*Indicates they are homegrown.
Per DW Sports, Schweinsteiger is evidently hopeful he can still feature at Old Trafford:
Dawson does not believe his inclusion in the squad is indicative he'll play, however:
If the former Germany international is Mourinho's sixth-choice central midfielder, minutes on the pitch will likely be at a minimum this year.
Further, with Schweinsteiger stuck at the club until January at the earliest, it would have made little sense to exclude him from the squad given it isn't even full with him in it.
However, unlike with Victor Valdes last season—a goalkeeper who had David De Gea in front of him—there's more chance of the manager rotating his outfield options.
The Red Devils will play at least six group-stage matches in the UEFA Europa League, and progression to the final would add a further nine games to their schedule, while the EFL Cup and FA Cup could also pile on the fixtures depending on how far they go.
As the campaign wears on, Mourinho will need to manage his squad accordingly and give his stars time to rest so as to keep them fresh until the end of the season.
Should any of United's midfielders suffer an injury or pick up a suspension, that could create further opportunities Schweinsteiger may be able to take advantage of.
He still has a lot to overcome if he's to pull on a United shirt once again, but it's far from impossible.
