Barcelona Transfer News: Paco Alcacer Pursuit Angers Valencia, Latest Rumours

Christopher SimpsonAug 24, 2016

Valencia are reportedly so angered by Barcelona's pursuit of Paco Alcacer that they're weighing up a decision to report the Blaugrana to FIFA.

According to AS (h/t Football Espana), Barca believe the striker will be theirs following a "meeting and alleged agreement between [president] Josep Maria Bartomeu and [Valencia owner] Peter Lim."

However, that has been contradicted by Los Che's president Layhoon Chan, sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch and manager Pako Ayestaran.

The powers that be at the Mestalla Stadium are unhappy with the Catalan giants holding talks with Alcacer, and they are "studying FIFA’s regulations" as the Spaniard has "a contract and a buyout clause of €80 million."

Per Spanish football expert Sergi Dominguez, Valencia-based newspaper Superdeporte also reported on a meeting between Bartomeu and Lim:

Mundo Deportivo (h/t Football Espana) added the meeting was successful as the pair "shook hands on a deal" and simply need to agree on how the payments will be structured.

Meanwhile, if Barca were to miss out on Alcacer, one of their alternate targets might also be off the table.

According to Sport, Everton are interested in signing Deportivo La Coruna's Lucas Perez—the Blaugrana target could cost them €17.5 million.

The Spaniard had an excellent campaign last year, the highlights of which can be seen here:

Here's a look at how he compares with Alcacer:

The 27-year-old is more willing to run at players than Alcacer and more successful, too, having completed 38 take-ons in La Liga last year compared with the Valencia man's nine, per Squawka.

He's also incredibly creative, as demonstrated by WhoScored.com:

Either would make an excellent addition to Barcelona's squad, which is already well capable of challenging for trophies but lacks strength in depth beyond their front three.

Alcacer appears to be the club's primary target, and at 22 years old, he still has room to develop. If they can't prise him away from Valencia, though, they must act quickly to secure Perez ahead of the Toffees.
