Manchester City Transfer News: Joe Hart 'Furious' Amid Claudio Bravo Rumours

Christopher SimpsonAug 23, 2016

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart is reportedly "furious" with the club's treatment of him amid reports that Claudio Bravo will arrive at the Etihad Stadium from Barcelona.

According to the Daily Mail's Mike Keegan, Hart believes manager Pep Guardiola should have made clear to him that he would not be in his plans earlier—he thinks the Spaniard had decided as much before the last campaign had even finishedthereby giving him more time to seek a move away this summer.

Hart has been dropped for Willy Caballero so far this season, and Keegan adds that Bravo's expected arrival in a £17 million deal will make the England international the third choice at the club.

The 29-year-old believes the club were afraid to sell him early in the summer "for fear of showing their hand and risking the price of goalkeeping targets rocketing as a result," but in doing so, it gave his potential suitors time to recruit other names.

Indeed, Liverpool and Everton—who have both been linked with a move for Hart, per Keegan—signed Loris Karius and Maarten Stekelenburg on May 24 and July 1, respectively.

Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas believes the reaction to Hart's treatment to be over the top:

While Hart would like to earn Guardiola's affections, Bravo's arrival will make doing so difficult and a year spent as a back-up is seen as a "worst-case scenario" that he is "very keen to avoid."

The Chilean is more comfortable with the ball at his feet than Hart, not only distributing it more accurately but helping the team build attacks from the back.

Further, the Englishman has shown a tendency to make disastrous gaffes in recent years, per Squawka Football:

That's not including the costly mistakes he made for England at UEFA Euro 2016.

Nevertheless, Hart has also shown himself to be a strong Premier League goalkeeper—per Match of the Day pundit Mark Lawrenson believes he will have little difficulty in finding a new club:

However, as with Everton, his £135,000-per-week wages will be difficult for many to match, while Liverpool not only signed Karius they also handed Simon Mignolet a new contract in January.

Further, Hart's chances are slightly hindered by his position—unlike outfield players, goalkeepers are rarely rotated and as there is just one place to compete for, most clubs don't tend to stock up on them.

For any club considering Hart at this point in the window, they need to be prepared to cast aside or upset their current No. 1, who by now will likely have been given assurances of their place for the season and would have little chance to move themselves.

Unless Hart is a significant upgrade on a team's first-choice goalkeeper, there may be few clubs willing to bring him in this late in the window.
