Manchester City Transfer News: Latest on Joe Hart and Issa Diop Rumours

Christopher SimpsonAug 23, 2016

Joe Hart could be set to stay put at Manchester City after Everton pulled out of the race to sign him due to the costs involved.

According to the Daily Mail's Dominic King, the Toffees withdrew their interest following talks with City on Monday, as his £135,000 weekly pay packet would bring the cost of his loan deal to £7 million for the season.

With summer recruit Maarten Stekelenburg impressing upon his arrival at Goodison Park, Everton aren't willing to commit that much money to another goalkeeper.

Jamie Jackson of the Guardian added that the England international could now remain at the Etihad Stadium with time running out in the transfer window and a lack of suitable offers coming in, despite the fact he would likely become the club's third choice if Claudio Bravo completes his move from Barcelona.

As demonstrated by Squawka Football, the Chile international has been more impressive than Hart of late:

The most telling difference between the pair is their pass completion—Hart lacks the requisite technical skills to play the ball out from the back as manager Pep Guardiola desires.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes the 29-year-old missed a trick by failing to work on the deficiencies in his game prior to the Spaniard's arrival at the club. In his column for the Daily Mail, the former Liverpool defender wrote:

"

It was an open secret for 12 months he was coming to Manchester, one which was confirmed on February 1.

Was Hart studying videos of [Manuel] Neuer and Victor Valdes to see what Guardiola wants from a "sweeper keeper" when the team plays such a high line? Was he going out on to the training ground, working on his left foot and his touch? There were extra things that he could have done to give himself a head start.

"

While it will be difficult for Hart to force his way into Guardiola's plans if Bravo arrives, he has shown himself to be an excellent stopper during his time at City, per WhoScored.com:

Despite some recent poor form—such as his displays for England at UEFA Euro 2016—he may yet receive further offers.

If not, he "has accepted he may not be able to move until the January window," according to Jackson.

Meanwhile, French outlet L'Equipe (h/t James Robson of the Manchester Evening News) reported the Sky Blues are interested in Toulouse youngster Issa Diop and hope to secure his signature this summer.

The 19-year-old centre-back was one of the sole highlights in a disappointing campaign for Toulouse last season, standing out with some fine displays. Here are some of his best moments:

Powerful in the air and an excellent reader of the game for someone his age, Diop has a bright future ahead of him.

Robson added that Diop would be available relatively cheaply and could equally come into the senior squad or be loaned out for the season to gain experience.
