Reed's Injury History Only Thing Holding Back Elite TE
Wildly effective when he's been on the field throughout his career, Reed has dealt with injuries in all three of his NFL seasons. He has never played more than 14 games in a single campaign and has missed a total of 15 regular-season games.
An ankle injury held Reed out of minicamp, and he missed additional time in the preseason because of a thumb injury.
Reed is coming off setting career highs in receptions (87), yards (952) and touchdowns (11). He was a surprise snub from the Pro Bowl but entered 2016 with high expectations.
"Seeing guys like [New England Patriots tight end Rob] Gronkowski and the things he's been able to do makes me believe I can do those kinds of things, too," Reed said, per Mike Jones of the Washington Post. "That's the mindset that I take: 'If someone else can, why can't I, too?'"
Veteran Vernon Davis should continue to see more playing time if Reed is forced to the sidelines again during the season.
