PGA Championship 2016: Leaderboard Scores and Highlights from Saturday
It was the weather and not the golfers that dominated headlines on Saturday during the third round of the 2016 PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey.
The top five golfers on the leaderboard didnโt even get the opportunity to tee off as storms in the area suspended play, per Golf.com, which means Jimmy Walker and Robert Streb are still pacing the field with Jason Day and others chasing:
The full leaderboard can be found at the PGA Tourโs official website.
ESPN Stats & Info pointed out the weather concerns are nothing new at Baltusrol:

While Walker, Streb and others were left watching, Kevin Kisner took full advantage of his moving day in the early going. He is tied for sixth place at five under for the tournament following a five-under 65 on Saturday. Were it not for two straight bogeys on Nos. 6 and 7, it would have been an even better day for Kisner, but he still made up for it with seven birdies, including three in a row on Nos. 15-17.
Kisner said his mindset was simply to attack the birdie opportunities, per Ryan Herrington of Golf Digest: โYeah, well, 20 under won the last major. I think you better attack it every time you get a chance on the PGA Tour.โ
Padraig Harrington also took advantage of early conditions on Saturday with a five-under 65, which earned him a spot in the top 10. He is tied for 10th at four under par and provided steady consistency with five birdies and no bogeys on Saturday.
He also ended his round on a high note, as PGA.com shared:
Elsewhere, Russell Knox is the only other player in the top 20 of the leaderboard who even finished his round on Saturday. He posted a three-under 67 after two even-par rounds to start the tournament and is tied for 18th place thanks to a red-hot stretch on Nos. 3-5 when he tallied three consecutive birdies.
Many of the marquee players didnโt get to finish their rounds, but Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth all took the course. Watson is tied for 47th place after an even-par 70, Mickelson shot his best round of the tournament with a two-under 68, and Spieth played a single hole and notched a par.
Mickelson finished with four birdies to counteract two bogeys, and his birdie on No. 3 was particularly notable after he approached the green from behind a tree and managed to put it right on and convert the ensuing putt. PGA Tour passed along the โMickelson magic:โ
While many of the players werenโt given the chance to provide the spectators with much action, some of them took things into their own hands.
Dan Carson of Fox Sports said โfans began wandering onto the course and grabbing golf balls as the rain poured down,โ while Ryan Ballengee of Golf News Net shared some of the visuals:
Of more interest for the overall tournament, Day, Streb and Walker were left watching. Day, who is the event's defending champion, is a mere two strokes behind the leaders after stringing together seven birdies in eight holes following a double bogey on No. 7 on Friday. Streb was also impressive in the second round with a sparkling seven-under 63.
The leaders still have 36 holes to squeeze in before someone earns the title. How they deal with the conditions following Saturdayโs weather will go a long way toward impacting the ultimate winner, but Day and Streb had plenty of momentum after their showings on Friday. They will now have to wait a full two days until they get to take the course again.
