Kurt Coleman, Panthers Reportedly Agree to New Contract: Details, Reaction
After a strong first season with the Carolina Panthers, free safety Kurt Coleman reportedly agreed to a three-year contract extension on Tuesday.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport initially reported the news of Coleman's new deal, which he's expected to sign on Wednesday. David Newton of ESPN confirmed the report.
Coleman, 28, spent his first four NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, who drafted him in the seventh round. He then played one year for the Kansas City Chiefs and recorded a team-high three interceptions before going to the Panthers ahead of last season.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The 2015 campaign was Coleman's best to date, as he made 15 starts and racked up 90 combined tackles, nine passes defensed, seven interceptions, a defensive touchdown and a sack. He was a cornerstone in a strong secondary that also featured cornerback Josh Norman and helped Carolina to a 15-1 record.
As Rapoport noted, Coleman made only $1.3 million last season. Due to be a cap hit of only $2.18 million this coming season, per Spotrac, he evidently proved enough in his maiden season with the Panthers that he was worth more money.
It's going to be all the more important for Coleman to play at a high level in 2016 and beyond, since Carolina lost Norman to Washington after rescinding his franchise tag offer.
The Panthers drafted three rookie cornerbacks in James Bradberry (second round), Daryl Worley (third round) and Zack Sanchez (fifth round).
With veteran cornerback Charles Tillman announcing his retirement, Coleman is in position to take command of the defensive backfield and serve as a mentor to the incoming players.
Carolina must feel confident Coleman can thrive in that role, in addition to handling greater responsibilities without a top-flight corner in Norman to aid him.
