Manchester United Transfer News: Paul Pogba Talk Banned Amid Latest Bid Rumours

Rory MarsdenJul 25, 2016

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri refused to comment on the future of Manchester United target Paul Pogba ahead of the Old Lady's pre-season clash with Tottenham Hotspur in Melbourne, Australia, on Tuesday.

Per the MailOnline's Mike Keegan, Allegri has banned talk about the French midfielder's future amid ongoing rumours Pogba will soon make a £100 million move back to former club United. The Italian coach was tight-lipped when questioned on the matter: "I am not going to talk about the transfer market news we are just here to get ready. The club is going to talk about the transfer market and they are doing very well so I am happy in that regard."

The latest update in the Pogba-to-United saga is Juve have told the Manchester club to add €10 million (£8.4 million) onto their latest offer, which is worth €120 million (£100.2 million) when add-ons are included, per the Guardian's Alan Smith and Fabrizio Romano.

Any such deal would smash the world-record transfer fee, currently the £85.3 million Real Madrid paid Spurs for Gareth Bale in 2013.

Per Bleacher Report's Dean Jones, Los Blancos were previously seen as the front-runners to sign 23-year-old Pogba:

However, Sky Sports' Andy Burton reported earlier in July that Real dropped their interest in Pogba "for financial reasons."

Now it seems Pogba will either still be a Juventus player next season or he will move to United.

New Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho moved fast to secure the signings of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan early in the summer transfer window, but United still need added strength in the centre of midfield.

The Portuguese boss previously hinted Pogba is the key target but said there are other options available if a deal cannot be struck, telling BBC Sport:

"

I am not going to try to make you naive and believe that we are not trying for one player.

We set four targets for us, we got three of them and we are going to get the fourth.

We established the profile of four players to improve the squad, to give us more options, especially adapted to my way of thinking about football.

Everybody speaks about one, but it wouldn't be a surprise for me if it is not him and it is another one because we went for profile.

We have two more options in front of us and we are going to close one.

"

It is clear United are prepared to pay huge money for Pogba, who left Old Trafford for free in 2012, having failed to nail down a first-team spot.

He has been one of Juve's key players over the last four seasons—winning four Serie A titles—and has developed into arguably the brightest young talent in Europe.

Already considered a world-class talent, Pogba still has much room for improvement. Therefore, he is worthy of a world-record price tag.

Clearly Allegri would be loath to see Pogba leave Juve, and the 48-year-old manager is unsurprisingly refusing to add any fuel to the fire surrounding his star player.
