WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from July 11

Erik BeastonJul 12, 2016

Dean Ambrose delivered the sort of promo that has been lacking from his WWE Championship reign on the July 11 episode of Raw, adding an element of seriousness to his performance and establishing himself as the biggest winner of this week's broadcast.

Addressing rival Seth Rollins during an in-ring promo on Monday's show, Ambrose relived the blood and violence he endured on his journey to WWE. Long before he was The Lunatic Fringe, he was one of the most brutal brawlers in the industry, his resume lined with broken bones, lacerations and weaponry. He was not a cliche or a larger-than-life character watered down for the purposes of sports entertainment.

No, Ambrose was one of wrestling's most dangerous men.

Recalling that not only allowed the champion to drop his shtick for a moment and come across as a real, serious competitor, it also built heat for his title defense against Rollins on next week's episode.

On a night where little was done to further WWE's main feuds, the company's top dog finally broke out with the type of verbal performance that will do him wonders as he fights to establish himself as a permanent fixture in the main event scene.

Winner: Darren Young

For weeks, fans have watched Darren Young and the great Bob Backlund perform skits designed to "make Darren Young great again." Monday night, the pre-taped vignettes paid off as the former Prime Time Player won a Battle Royal to become the new No. 1 contender to The Miz's WWE Intercontinental Championship.

The match itself was unimpressive, as was Young's performance in it. What was impressive, though, was WWE Creative's decision to take the chance on the charismatic star. Too often, it builds a story or star and drops it at the first sign of resistance from fans.

Though the videos failed to gain any real traction, the writing staff took the initiative and delivered Young's first push in years.

Whether he can reward them with the type of in-ring performances that generate interest from the crowd remains to be seen.

Loser: Kalisto

Is there a single Superstar who regularly appears on WWE television that is as ice cold as Kalisto is at this point? The former United States champion has descended into meaningless, shoved back into the tag team division alongside partner Sin Cara. Monday night, The Lucha Dragons lost to Breezango, devaluing them even further.

Factor in Kalisto's midmatch botch and his generally sluggish performances of late, and you have a Superstar who has fallen significantly since January and whose prospects heading into the WWE draft are not nearly as bright and sunshiny as they should be.

That is unfortunate for a star who looked like the first breakout luchador since Rey Mysterio in 2002.

Losers: The New Day and The Wyatt Family

The feud between The New Day and The Wyatt Family took a step back Monday night during a segment designed to take advantage of the hype surrounding TNA's Final Deletion.

WWE tag team champions Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E visited The Wyatt Family's compound for a battle with Bray, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman that was clunky, featured too many edits and attempted to be too serious. It lacked the charm of TNA's segment and, worse yet, came across as a cheap 1970s horror flick.

Bray and his minions came across as dangerous and deadly, a nice change of pace following a year in which they looked like oafs, but that was the one positive of the film-school reject of a segment.
