Treadwell Failing to Impress in 2016
Treadwell was long considered the top wide receiver in his class leading up to the draft, and although he was surpassed by some of his peers on draft night, the Vikings happily nabbed him at No. 23, hoping they had landed a future go-to receiver.
Minnesota surprisingly reached the playoffs last season behind the power of its running game with Adrian Peterson and a hungry and aggressive defense. The one area that wasn't on par with other playoff teams, though, was its aerial attack.
The Vikings ranked 31st in both passing yards per game and touchdown passes, and a lack of playmakers at wide receiver contributed heavily to that. While Stefon Diggs showed flashes as a rookie, Teddy Bridgewater had little support elsewhere from his pass-catchers.
Treadwell was selected to change that, as he had caught 82 passes for 1,153 yards and 11 touchdowns during his junior season at Ole Miss as quarterback Chad Kelly's favorite target. That performance came on the heels of a sophomore campaign that saw him appear in only nine games due to a fractured tibia and dislocated ankle.
