WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from July 4

Erik BeastonJul 5, 2016

Almost three months to the day of their electrifying debut on WWE Raw, Enzo Amore and Big Cass hopped off the booking treadmill, interjected themselves in one of the hottest feuds in professional wrestling and earned "biggest winner" status for the July 4 broadcast.

The duo, inarguably one of the hottest in the entire sport, dispatched The Social Outcasts' Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel, sold Long Island hot dogs from Sonic in a pre-taped vignette and capped off their monumental evening by coming to John Cena's aid during a three-on-one beatdown perpetrated by The Club.

After months of entertaining audiences to thunderous ovations in arenas across the country and really going nowhere, their patience and hard work paid off with a sudden push into what is arguably the hottest program in all of WWE.

The rub Enzo and Cass received from standing side-by-side with Cena on Monday night was more than enough to earn them "biggest winner" status from this week's show. Intensifying their argument was the ovation they received and the fact that they were arguably more over than the industry icon with whom they shared the ring.

Big things await the self-proclaimed "certified G's and bona fide studs," both of whom suddenly find themselves en route to the biggest match of their young careers on July 24 at Battleground.

Winner: Zack Ryder

The main event was a mess of a match that did few of the Superstars involved any favors. One who did benefit, though, was former intercontinental and United States champion Zack Ryder.

Long Island Iced Z was one-eighth of Team USA in a 16-Man Tag Team Elimination match against The Multinational Alliance. It appeared on paper that Ryder would be tossed aside, sent packing from the match in the same manner that competitors like Mark Henry, Jack Swagger and The Dudley Boyz had been.

He was not. Instead, he caught former WWE champion Sheamus with the Rough Ryder, scoring the deciding pinfall that would net Team USA the win.

After capturing the IC title at WrestleMania 32, Ryder had resumed his role as everyone's favorite punching bag. He lost more than he won, but in those defeats he shined brighter than he had before. Monday's victory suggests that with the WWE Draft coming up on July 19, management may have plans in store for the popular underdog.

Could Ryder, a vastly improved wrestler than he was during his initial push back in 2011, be poised for a breakout? Only time will tell, but on Monday night he enjoyed his second signature win of the year over a team of accomplished in-ring workers and former world champions.

Loser: The Miz

There was no reason whatsoever for WWE intercontinental champion The Miz to square off with and lose to Dean Ambrose for the second time in five days. The Hollywood A-Lister is fresh off a movie shoot and trying to re-establish a character that had picked up considerable momentum before his brief hiatus.

Instead of cleverly booking him as the champion who always finds a way to escape with his title reign intact, WWE has let him fall into the same booking traps that befell so many other worthy titleholders. He has lost in consecutive matches to a guy already perceived to be better than him. Worse yet? He lost cleanly, completely undermining his status as champion.

Considering how few quality heels WWE has, the last thing it and its creative team should be focusing on is stripping away the credibility of a virtuoso villain like The Miz.

Winner: Baron Corbin

The Lone Wolf did not appear live on this week's show but was the subject of an extraordinary video package courtesy of WWE's immensely talented production team:

In one two-minute piece, he was put over as a much bigger deal than any booking has put him over to this point.

Winner: Xavier Woods

For the longest time, Xavier Woods fueled the comedic element of The New Day's act. He was the mouthpiece but also understood the importance of timing. He was the heart of the group, often garnering heat for the team through a simple trombone note.

On Monday night, his facial expressions and the delivery of his promo did as much to put over The Wyatt Family's renewed element of danger. By warning that The New Day may not survive a clash with Bray and his followers, Woods laid the groundwork for the remainder of the program in a manner that only he could.

Woods has been the centerpiece of the angle. He has preached positivity only to come to the harsh realization that Wyatt and his family are unlike any opponent The New Day has ever faced.

It has forced him to reach down within himself and pull out characteristics of a frightened, startled young competitor no longer convinced that the life messages he and his friends have relayed are valid in dealing with the enigmatic faction.

Woods brought great passion to his promo Monday night, and the result was a breakthrough performance during the best segment of this week's show.
