Pedro Has 'Multiple Fractures' After David Ospina Collision, Says Antonio Conte
Chelsea winger Pedro suffered "multiple fractures" after colliding with Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina on Saturday, according to Blues boss Antonio Conte.
Chelsea's official Twitter feed relayed the news:
The Spain international was forced off in the friendly clash and hospitalised after Ospina caught him while trying to punch a cross clear, per Vaishali Bhardwaj of the Evening Standard.
He took to Twitter to reassure fans afterwards:
Pedro's setback means manager Antonio Conte could look to the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian and Victor Moses to fill the void out wide while he begins the recovery process.
The 29-year-old has risen to become a more important member of the Chelsea lineup under Conte, capitalising on the manager's switch to a 3-4-3 formation with a string of strong displays out wide.
Chelsea's wide man started in 32 of his 43 appearances across all competitions last season and was a prominent part of the Blues setup over the course of his maiden Premier League campaign.
However, Pedro managed to play the full 90 minutes in just 12 matches, and this latest blow will do nothing to improve his chances of besting that figure this term.
The former Barcelona speedster now looks set to miss upcoming fixtures against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, for which Conte's creative options will be altered as a result, but he could potentially be back to start in the Community Shield against Arsenal on August 6 or Chelsea's opening Premier League clash with Burnley on August 12.
Pedro has managed to avoid any major injuries in his career to date and has missed a total of just 12 games due to injury, according to Transfermarkt.
