Brandon Ingram to Lakers: Twitter Reacts as SF Is Selected in 2016 NBA Draft
For months, Brandon Ingram has been slated to go second overall. The Los Angeles Lakers confirmed those expectations Thursday, selecting the Duke forward with their first-round selection.
Bleacher Report and the Lakers had an early look of what he could look like in a Lakers uniform:
Ingram, 18, averaged 17.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in his lone season in Durham. He emerged as one of the nation's most gifted all-around scorers, garnering some comparisons to Kevin Durant.
Andy Glockner of The Cauldron passed along an interesting quote:
The similarities in body type are hard to ignore. Ingram is a lanky, 6'9" swingman with long arms and massive strength concerns. While Ingram avoided the Durant embarrassment of not being able to bench-press 185 pounds by avoiding combine workouts, his lack of added bulk since the college season ended has been a concern.
J.E. Skeets of The Starters turned Ingram's body into a meme:
Ben Simmons, who went No. 1 overall to the Philadelphia 76ers, has added 20 pounds since leaving college. Ingram has put on only 26 pounds over the last year despite eating everything he can. That's led to some concern that he might not have the body for the NBA lifestyle.
Adam Jacobi does like how Ingram's name works in all things pun-related:
Nearly every expert agreed this is a two-player draft. Ingram joins 2015 second overall pick D'Angelo Russell in giving the Lakers their best youth-laden core in decades. Their unprecedented bottoming out as a franchise has allowed them to build around sensational offensive talent.
Matt Moore of CBS Sports likes the Lakers' young core:
"DAR-Clarkson-Ingram-Randle-?????? will be so much fun.

Here is a look at some of the best reaction:
""I have inner strength that no one knows about " is Brandon Ingram's answer to a question about his durability

This was a no-brainer pick. Ingram was the second-best player in this class and the only other real foundational-type player other than Simmons. There was a clear chasm between the top two and the rest of the draft, so all the Lakers had to do was sit back and allow Philly to make their decision for them.
Chances are both teams will walk away satisfied Thursday night.
