WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from June 22
Austin Aries' first few months in NXT may have been somewhat underwhelming, but a great match against Shinsuke Nakamura at TakeOver: The End gave him a boost, and a complete heel turn on the June 22 episode of NXT established him as the biggest winner of the night.
Neither a heel nor a babyface for the longest time, Aries' on-screen persona was nondescript and underdeveloped. He had no motivation. Recently, we have learned that he strives to be great, and on Thursday night he fooled everyone into believing he was a nice guy who saw the importance of having fun in professional wrestling...only to blast a dancing No Way Jose with a stiff forearm and apply the Last Chancery on the entrance ramp.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Now a full-fledged heel, Aries can move onward and upward, the audience having a clear understanding of his personality and character.
With so many NXT stalwarts figuring to make the jump to Raw and SmackDown during the July 19 draft, The Greatest Man That Ever Lived will have the opportunity to rise to the top of the brand, a credible top contender to the heavyweight title and one of the names on the marquee.
Winner: Nia Jax

The unstoppable heel of NXT's women's division continued her winning ways, rebounding from a rare defeat at the hands of Asuka to annihilate Liv Morgan in a sprint of a squash match.
More importantly, she introduced a new finishing maneuver that suits her better than the leg drop ever did. Perhaps it was because the move was executed on someone as tiny as the underdog Morgan, but the powerbomb that Jax unleashed Wednesday night was Sid Vicious-esque, a powerful and devastating move that will undoubtedly net her victory after victory in the coming months.
Maybe even a little championship gold to add to her growing resume.
Loser: Bayley

Even an impressive and dominant win over Deonna Purrazzo could not hide the fact that Bayley is stagnant, moving neither up nor down. The former champion is still, arguably, the most popular wrestler on the roster, but she has nowhere to go. She has been at the top of her division and is far too beloved to take a step back. She is one of the faces of the brand but has a main-roster run in her future.
Thus she is essentially going through the motions at a time when management should be concerned with maintaining her momentum.
Coming out of WrestleMania, she has been beaten cleanly by Nia Jax and left off large stretches of television completely. Maximizing her time with the brand and continuing to build her into a household name that can eventually make the seamless jump to WWE television should be at the top of the list of priorities for NXT management.
Winner: Buddy Murphy

He has not been successful thus far in his attempt at a singles run, but Buddy Murphy has proved to be an understated professional wrestler over the last year. He is never the flashiest guy in the ring, nor does he steal the spotlight from his opponents or tag team partners. He is simply a convincing worker whose offense looks good, whose timing is impeccable and whose selflessness is a trademark of his act.
On Wednesday night, he worked Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event of the show. Though he was bowled over by The King of Strong Style, Murphy still put in tremendous effort in bumping around the ring for the Japanese star. He made the international icon look like a legitimate star even more than he already does, and the result was a far more entertaining squash match than it otherwise would have been.
There is no real indication of where this split from Wesley Blake and Alexa Bliss will take Murphy, but hopefully it will afford him even a slight push at some point over the next few months.
