Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Paul Pogba, Juan Mata Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenJun 22, 2016

The agent of Juventus star Paul Pogba, Mino Raiola, has named Manchester United among a list of “fascinating” projects his client would be interested in. Meanwhile, Everton are reportedly interested in moving for Juan Mata during the summer transfer window.

Raiola has been talking up his client over the last few days, sending the transfer rumour mill into overdrive, and while he has clarified any deal would have to be run past Juventus, he came up with a number of potential suitors during a recent interview.

As reported by Rob Dawson of the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils were included on the list, along with a host of other clubs:

Will Pogba leave Juventus?

Paul has to grow. He’s at Juve now, so any transfer must be run past Juventus.

I've said that he likes (Zinedine) Zidane, Real Madrid is fascinating as are Barcelona, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Chelsea and also Juve.

"

The 23-year-old left United for Turin in 2012 and quickly developed into one of the most coveted midfielders in the world. Speculation regarding his future has been almost constant for the last three years, and after a fine 2015-16 campaign, the Frenchman is being mentioned again as a target for the world's best.

Here's a look at why teams are interested in his services:

The Serie A champions remain adamant Pogba will not be sold during the summer, but Raiola has done his best to keep the rumour mill spinning.

Juventus chief executive Beppe Marotta hopes their “great relationship” with Raiola will play a part in negotiations, via Bleacher Report UK's Adam Digby:

Out of the list of options―which includes Juventus―United seem to be one of Pogba's least likely destinations. The France international left the club on a free transfer after he was barely given the opportunity to prove himself, and he won't have good memories of his time at the club.

The Red Devils haven't finished higher than fourth in the Premier League since the departure of former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and they won't feature in the UEFA Champions League next year―something almost every other top club can offer.

Ferguson was the man who didn't treat Pogba the way he wanted to be treated, but the 23-year-old may be willing to give new United boss Jose Mourinho a chance. The Red Devils have the financial means to pay him whatever he wants, and their wealth of young talent means the club's future is very bright.

United certainly are a “fascinating” project, and while it can be argued a move to Old Trafford would be a step down from Juventus right now, the Premier League giants have the money to pay the record-breaking fee the Italian club will surely demand.

The Bianconeri will prefer not to sell Pogba, however, and as of right now, the midfielder is still more likely to stay put.

Meanwhile, ClubCall (h/t Daily Star's Jamie Anderson) reports Everton want to start the Ronald Koeman era with a splash signing, and they currently lead the race to sign Mata.

The Spaniard's future at Old Trafford is unclear following the arrival of Mourinho, who sold Mata to the Red Devils while he was in charge of Chelsea. While that doesn't automatically mean he'll do so again, it has led to lots of speculation.

It would be an ambitious move from the Toffees. While Mata wasn't at his best during the 2015-16 campaign, his time with United has so far been productive, and he remains a superb option in the attacking third.

There's little doubt several top clubs, both in the Premier League and La Liga, would be interested should he be available, so Everton will have their work cut out convincing him to move to Goodison Park.
