Stephen Curry's Father-in-Law Almost Arrested, NBA Cites Identity Mistake
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry's father-in-law was nearly arrested prior to Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Thursday when he was mistaken for a credential counterfeiter.
According to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, an NBA official said security checked Curry's father-in-law's credentials because they believed he looked similar to David Aminzadeh, who is notorious for sneaking into major sporting events.
Curry's wife, Ayesha Curry, had the following to say about the incident involving her father:
The two-time reigning NBA MVP also commented on the matter after being told about the incident following the Dubs' 115-101 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, per Spears:
"I was just kind of debriefed on what the security thought happened with some guy that poses with fake credentials and gets backstage at a lot of events, the NBA Finals and all that stuff. They kind of profiled my father-in-law and thought he was him. They threatened to arrest him before they checked out his credentials. It's kind of been an emotional and tough night all the way around.
That was kind of a traumatic situation where her [Ayesha's] dad almost got arrested. So it was kind of a tough situation to deal with in a hostile environment. All in all, it's just a game. I hope that everybody is all right.
"
The situation involving Curry's father-in-law added to what was an already difficult night for the three-time All-Star.
Although Curry scored 30 points, he fouled out for the first time since 2013. He was ejected from the court when he threw his mouthpiece, unintentionally hitting a fan, following his sixth foul.
The series is now tied 3-3 despite Golden State's previous 3-1 advantage, but the action will shift from Cleveland to Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, for the seventh and decisive game.
