Bobby Roode, Rich Swann and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Ryan DilbertJun 15, 2016

It's official; we now live in a world where Bobby Roode and Rich Swann both work for the same company—WWE NXT.

Roode climbed into the ring for the developmental brand after spending 12 years wrestling for TNA. It was an expected move after he appeared in the crowd at NXT TakeOver: Dallas and backstage during TakeOver: The End. Still, it's surreal that a man who was long one of the cornerstones of TNA is now a WWE talent.

Swann, a man who has competed everywhere from Dragon Gate to Chikara, is an NXTer as well. However, he may not be healthy enough to compete in the brand's upcoming showcase of high-flyers.

In other news, a full list of wrestlers in the Cruiserweight Classic is now up, Triple H traveled to the Far East to scout and NXT is gearing up for a trip to the Lone Star State.

WWE Announces Full Cruiserweight Classic Lineup

The Cruiserweight Classic field is now set. WWE revealed all the entrants to the tournament on its official website.

The list includes Japanese sensation Kota Ibushi, ECW and WWE vet Tajiri and former Ring of Honor star Cedric Alexander. It's a great mix between names most WWE fans will recognize—like Brian Kendrick—and lesser known marvels—like Canadian indy star Tyson Dux.

The event, which will begin this summer, promises to produce some stellar matches and create buzz aplenty for some of these fresh faces. More and more, the Cruiserweight Classic is looking like one of WWE's best ideas in a long while.

Rich Swann Reportedly Dealing with Injury

Rich Swann, one of the 32 men set to compete in the upcoming Cruiserweight Classic, is nursing a bad wing.

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet reported, "Swann recently sustained a shoulder injury and it could keep him from participating in the inaugural Cruiserweight Classic." Satin noted that Swann has not competed of late in the hopes of recovering in time for the tourney.

Hopefully, that strategy proves fruitful. Swann is one of the most intriguing talents in the tournament field. NXT fans have seen him briefly at Full Sail University, but this event is tailor-made to be a celebration of his high-flying talents.

The teases are over; Bobby Roode has now joined the NXT fray.

The former TNA world champion made a surprise appearance during the Download Festival in Leicestershire, England, where he wrestled Angelo Dawkins, as seen on CageMatch.netNXT posted a clip of his entrance on Twitter.

At 39, Roode is likely too old in WWE's mind to be a key part of its New Era, but The It Factor will be an invaluable piece of the NXT puzzle.

He's an experienced, accomplished veteran who will help bring the brand's prospects along. Plus, with the NXT roster likely to get pilfered during the WWE draft in July, his star power will be needed in a big way.

WWE Hosting Tryouts in China

4 of 5

WWE's search for talent remains ongoing and continues to be global. NXT head Triple H traveled to a country with a massive amount of people, but one that hasn't yet produced any WWE household names.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson reported, "Triple H is in China this week, overseeing a WWE tryout there. WWE referee Shawn Bennett is also over there for the tryouts."

Wrestling is not nearly as popular in China as it is in Japan. That's a big reason why we have seen Japan produce stars like Tajiri and Shinsuke Nakamura, while the larger of the two Asian countries has not made a mark on WWE history. That could soon change, though.

NXT has already plucked prospects from Australia, Ireland, Bulgaria and Albania. The Red Dragon could be next.

Other News, Notes

NXT will soon return to Texas. WWE announced the developmental brand will travel to San Antonio, Houston and Corpus Christi in mid-July. This will be NXT's first-ever trip to Corpus.

As for NXT's scheduled trip to New York, it's already a success. Triple H noted on Twitter that NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II in August is sold out.

And as impressive a lineup as WWE assembled for the Cruiserweight Classic, it's missing one well-traveled athletic dynamo in Amazing Red. PWInsider's Steven Fernandes reported the former TNA X-Division champion was "slated for the WWE Cruiserweight Classic tournament that will begin filming this month, but had to pull out after breaking his ankle."

The tourney won't be hurting for talent, but it would have been fun to see Amazing Red mix it up with the collection of cruiserweights WWE put together.
