WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from June 13

Erik BeastonJun 14, 2016

Just days before Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns battle for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of Money in the Bank, they joined Dean Ambrose for The Ambrose Asylum talk show, bringing all three members of The Shield together for an explosive segment and, in the process, earning the former Hounds of Justice biggest winner honor for the June 13 broadcast.

Rollins evolved before our very eyes, ensuring that his championship victory at Money in the Bank will not come at the hands of Kane, The Authority or J&J Security. It will not be the result of cheating or favoritism on the part of management. He will beat Reigns and capture the title by himself, if only to prove that he is the best wrestler on the planet.

Reigns vowed to prove his worth as champion by beating the man who never lost the title.

Then there was Ambrose, the wild card of the segment, who teased cashing in Money in the Bank and turning the main event of that show into a Triple Threat match. To put an exclamation point on his involvement in the story, The Lunatic Fringe dropped best friend Reigns with Dirty Deeds.

The performers did an extraordinary job of creating intrigue about what was, up until Monday, a disappointingly lethargic title program. They meshed their stories and threw in a curveball, and the result was one of the most compelling segments of the night, executed to perfection by the Superstars involved.

Winner: AJ Styles

Sunday night at Money in the Bank, AJ Styles will battle John Cena in what is essentially a dream match for fans of professional wrestling who have watched over the last 15 years as both men rose through the ranks to conquer their individual promotions, capturing titles and standing tall as legitimate franchise stars of whichever company they worked for.

Monday night, they stood face-to-face in the center of the ring and signed a contract that not only made their bout official but ensured that The Club's Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson would not be involved in their epic encounter.

Styles starred in the segment, promising to show Cena he is unlike all of the other indy guys he has competed against to this point. He spoke with intensity and conviction, a man whose belief in what he was saying was never clearer.

The Phenomenal One has been more believable and effective on the mic since turning heel, his promos more natural. His performance on Raw did more to get over his frustration with Cena, his confidence that he is the better man and his insistence that Cena cannot hang with him between the ropes.

In his last opportunity to make a statement to WWE's largest viewing audience, Styles rose to the occasion and delivered an admirable performance fitting of the extraordinary contest that will occur Sunday night.

Loser: Paige

How disappointing is it that a forgettable, non-title win over WWE women's champion Charlotte is reason to celebrate if you are a fan of Paige?

There was a time when the British-born competitor looked like the face of the company's future, the woman hand-picked by management to carry women's wrestling into the next decade. She exploded onto the scene, was part of several high-profile programs and even had an expansive line of merchandise.

Then it all came crashing down with the arrival of the aforementioned Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch. Since then, she has been a background player at best. At worst, she is a nonentity, a wrestler stuck in the deep, dark abyss of Main Event and Superstars.

That someone so talented is stuck working the occasional non-title match against Charlotte, sparking excitement among her fanbase when she wins such a meaningless match, is disheartening.

Winner: Kane

"Shane, is this about that whole car battery to the testicles thing?"

With that one line, Corporate Kane reminded audiences of why he can be such a fun and entertaining character in spurts. The alter ego of The Big Red Monster not only fit right back into the proceedings Monday night, but he delivered a few one-liners like the one above that elicited a chuckle or two.

Longtime fans will remember that Kane and Shane McMahon have a very torrid history, including a notorious segment in which Kane connected a car battery to the prodigal son's...nether regions...and electrocuted him. It was an over-the-top scene of torture but one that struck the audience, remaining a reminder of the ridiculousness WWE Creative can dream up when left to its own devices.

The veteran performer has long demonstrated an underrated comedic timing, and Monday night, in one very short appearance just prior to the main event, he proved it again.

Losers: Sheamus and Apollo Crews

Is there any feud more ice-cold at this point than Sheamus vs. Apollo Crews?

Neither Superstar has a defined character that fans can care about. The issues are undefined, the result of a backstage beatdown that stuck out like a sore thumb if only because it was an incredibly lazy way to bring the two together.

Since then, the stars have had little interaction aside from Monday's show, where Crews chased Sheamus out of the arena, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows star a coward more than the confident arse-kicker that he was portrayed as just six months ago.

Crews can work with former world champions as much as WWE Creative wants, but until the writing staff goes through the task of crafting a character for him, he is destined for failure.

No matter how talented he is between the ropes.

Both Superstars deserve more. They have been failed, and the result will be a heatless match Sunday night at Money in the Bank, helped even less by the lackluster final build that unfolded Monday on Raw.
