Manchester United Transfer News: Major Signings, Stars Targeted by Jose Mourinho
Zlatan Ibrahimovic's proposed move to Manchester United has reportedly hit a snag, as the Sweden international wants to compete in the summer Olympics and could miss the start of the 2016-17 campaign, while Barcelona are being linked with reported Red Devils target Andre Gomes.
According to the Daily Mirror (h/t Daily Star's Luke Gardener), Ibrahimovic would love to be one of three veteran players Sweden are allowed to field during the Olympics in Brazil and Swedish manager Hakan Ericson is keen to bring the veteran along.
Manager Jose Mourinho wants all of his players available for pre-season and the start of the Premier League, however. The Olympic tournament will run until August 20, and the 34-year-old would likely need some time off to recover after that, as he's also playing in the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament.

Per Gardener, United have offered Ibrahimovic a one-year deal to join the club as a free agent, but he won't leave Paris Saint-Germain until the end of this month, as he's due for a £1 million bonus.
While Ibrahimovic's Olympic plans shouldn't necessarily kill his move to Old Trafford, it does complicate matters. After Mourinho's dreadful 2015-16 campaign with Chelsea and United's mediocre start to last season, the Portuguese manager is desperate for a strong start with his new club, and he can't afford to kick things off without one of his key players.
Ibrahimovic will be expected to lead the United attack once he moves to Old Trafford, using his wealth of experience and deadly instincts to give the side the kind of attacking threat it hasn't fielded in years. Here's a look at some of his highlights:
Ibrahimovic could effectively miss the first month of the season, forcing Mourinho to turn to other options in the meantime. And while Marcus Rashford showed plenty of promise last season, the new coach tends to not trust his youngsters until they've convinced him―he's more likely to add a second striker, who could back up Ibrahimovic and start until the Swede is ready.
Meanwhile, Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo (h/t International Business Times, via Daily Mirror's Liam Corless) reports that Barcelona have turned their eye toward Valencia star Gomes, who was reportedly scouted during Portugal's impressive 7-0 win over Estonia.

Per the report, the 22-year-old has already expressed his admiration of Mourinho, but he won't be making a decision on his future before Euro 2016 is over.
Gomes was one of the few bright spots for Valencia during the miserable 2015-16 campaign, and there are plenty of reasons to believe the young midfielder is ready to take the next step and move to a bigger club.
The deep-lying midfielder, who can also play as a box-to-box option or as a holding midfielder, is quickly becoming a fantastic distributor, adding superb range to his technical abilities. Here's a look at his highlights:
Per AS (h/t Football Italia) he has a massive release clause of more than €100 million (£78 million), and Valencia are expected to hold out for a significant transfer fee. Suitors will have to spend far more money than Gomes is worth, and will be banking on the Portuguese starlet making good on his potential.
Barcelona don't have a need for another central midfielder, with the likes of Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta having a tight hold on the starting positions, and in a straight bidding war, United are more likely to come out on top due to their need for midfield reinforcements.
They'll also be able to all but guarantee Gomes a starting position, which would be quite appealing for the youngster and would aid his development.
