Arron Afflalo Reportedly Agrees to 2-Year Contract with Sacramento Kings
Shooting guard Arron Afflalo quickly found a new home in free agency, reportedly agreeing to a two-year, $25 million deal with the Sacramento Kings, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.
Afflalo averaged 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 44 percent from the floor, including 38 percent from three-point range, during his only season with the New York Knicks. The deal Afflalo opted out of would have paid him $8 million next season, according to Spotrac.
The 30-year-old UCLA product was moved to the bench in March, leading to a public disagreement with interim head coach Kurt Rambis. Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News noted Rambis said he told the guard about the "front office consensus" decision, but Afflalo denied he was alerted.
In April, Marc Berman of the New York Post passed along comments from the 2007 first-round pick, who made it clear a chance to start was an extremely high priority:
Calling himself an "elite" 2-guard is a stretch based on his production over the past couple of years. That said, there's no doubt he's a well-rounded contributor capable of defending an opponent's top perimeter scorer and providing secondary scoring numbers on offense.
