American Alpha vs. the Revival: Winner and Reaction from NXT TakeOver: The End

In an anticipated rematch from NXT TakeOver: Dallas, The Revival defeated American Alpha Wednesday night at NXT TakeOver: The End to regain the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Bleacher Report's Ryan Dilbert and the Miami Herald's Scott Fishman provided their initial takes:

After the match, two unknown wrestlers proceeded to assault American Alpha before a familiar face would appear, via WWE:

Triple H congratulated The Revival on Twitter and shared a picture of the three of them:

American Alpha's meteoric rise through the tag team ranks culminated in Dallas, where they won the tag titles from Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder for the first time.

Chad Gable and Jason Jordan have developed into arguably NXT's most popular act due to their personality and in-ring acumen, but an unimpressed Revival team vowed to take back the belts it held for 162 days and become the first two-time tag champs in NXT history.

After the duos put on such a strong match at the previous NXT live special, Gable anticipated a grueling battle in the return bout:

While retaining the titles was American Alpha's No. 1 priority entering The End, the team also had another goal in mind. According to Fishman, Jordan felt that stealing the show as the best match on the card was realistic:

"

We are all extremely driven. We love sports entertainment. I just don't believe there is so much added pressure. I understand there are these expectations, but we 100 percent believe that we can definitely steal the show at TakeOver. That is our goal. Our goal is to steal the show at TakeOver: The End and continue to put the tag team division on the map and NXT.

"

Whether or not Gable, Jordan, Dawson and Wilder stole the show is up for interpretation, but they put on another strong performance, showed their chemistry in the ring and proved that tag team wrestling is on the ascent under the WWE umbrella.

Much of NXT's talent has been called up to the main roster in recent months, especially in the tag division, with WWE promoting Enzo Amore and Big Cass as well as The Vaudevillains.

That has left American Alpha and The Revival as the last top teams standing, and they embraced that fact at NXT TakeOver: The End.

While the feud between them may continue since American Alpha is due an automatic rematch, some other intriguing scenarios could come into play as well.

The Revival lost a match to Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa prior to TakeOver, which means they could be in line for a title shot once Gable and Jordan get their rematch.

With WWE's brand split and draft on the horizon, it is possible that the company could call up more talent from NXT, and after falling short in their first title defense, it is fair to speculate that American Alpha may be in line for a promotion.

The Revival will be the unquestioned toast of the NXT tag team division if that's the case, and they proved Wednesday that they are more than capable of handling that burden.
