Excuse Or Not, Rain Poured On The Miami Hurricanes
I am not one to make excuses. I generally do not write biased garbage like a lot of super fans do, but last week's game against Virgina Tech was a complete washout.
It was not the same Hurricanes we were accustomed to watching. Jacory had a heck of a time with the wet football and they just couldn't get on track.
Wet football? I can hear all you haters now calling me out for making excuses, but I do not care what you say. There is one thing that stops speed, and it's rain.
I was really excited about this game. Then, before the game started, they showed Lane Stadium and my jaw dropped to the floor. I turned to my wife and said, "Miami is going to get pounded." I couldn't have been more right.
This young team has already had to shoulder a high national ranking, a brutal schedule, loss of key players, and a sophomore starting quarterback. Now they have to play on enemy grounds, in pouring rain, and without speed because of it.
They were at a loss. Granted, both teams played on the same field, but it's different when you are on your home field and when you have an offense built for running. Ask anyone out there that has played football or even just watched it, what do you do when it's raining, run the ball or pass? The answer is obvious: you run.
Miami has proved that the offense is pass first, run second. So when the rains came, it was hard for Miami to run and not pass. It threw the team off balance and it was over, just as I called it when I saw the field before the game started.
Miami needs to balance their attack better and of course, work on that defense, which is a totally different story.
I will congratulate the Hokies because they played a great game, but will not call Miami over-hyped, or even overrated. Miami is very young and after the clouds clear, Miami will prove to the country that they are the real deal.
