The Rock's TKO Royalties, Reimbursements Revealed
A handful of matches are on tap already. WWE is teasing something hatching on Monday night. And the matter of which Superstar will fill the final spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match field is likely to be resolved. The women's division should be celebrating a pair of returns as well.
Backstage reports, social media and the Raw preview on WWE.com help fans peek into the future, seeing what Monday's show has in store.
News, Potential Spoilers
The wait to see Sasha Banks' artistry on TV again may be over. The Boss hasn't wrestled on Raw since mid-April but started working the house-show circuit after reportedly recovering from an injury WWE never announced.
On F4WOnline.com, Dave Meltzer reported on Sunday, "Banks returned to action last night in Winnipeg after her head injury suffered two weeks ago." On WWE's original plans for her, Meltzer wrote recently, "She was to have a match and to return to TV to build it."
Fans won't have to wait long to see whether that's still what WWE has in mind. There is plenty of time between now and Money in the Bank to reintroduce Banks and have her clash with a rival to set up a PPV bout.
And according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc), Summer Rae's recent absence had been because of injury, possibly a concussion. She made her return recently, wrestling at a number of house shows, as seen on CageMatch.net.
It's unclear whether it's a return or some kind of angle, but WWE has been teasing that something is arriving on Monday night. The teasers have used the hashtag "hatch."
One common guess is this is the company's way of welcoming back The Wyatt Family. After Bray Wyatt went down with a calf injury in April, Braun Strowman and Erick Rowan disappeared from TV. Perhaps this "hatch" idea is just a means to try to create buzz about their return to Raw.
Wyatt himself has been issuing teasers. He and his clan have used "TheReturn" as a hashtag in several tweets over the past few weeks. In addition, The Eater of Worlds seemed to be hinting at the arrival of the much talked-about Sister Abigail character:
But WWE may want to space out its returns. Seth Rollins came back at Extreme Rules on May 22 and Cena is back starting Monday night. Throwing Wyatt and company into that mix could easily overshadow their re-emergence.
Money in the Bank Build
There is one final spot up for grabs in the Money in the Bank ladder match.
Sami Zayn, Cesaro, Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose earned their way into the contest by winning qualification matches on the previous edition of Raw. Alberto Del Rio joined the fray via a win against Zack Ryder on Thursday's SmackDown.
With Cena back, does he look to add his name to that list? Does a returning Wyatt nab that spot? Monday's Raw is likely to provide the answer to those key questions.
The Memorial Day show will feature a pair of contentious matches: Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin and The Dudley Boyz vs. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady.
The Dudley Boyz have been at odds with The Realest Guys in the Room since they arrived in April. The two teams have collided a few times, but Amore's recent concussion put that rivalry on hold. Bubba Ray and D-Von are ready to restart that feud.
On SmackDown, they challenged Amore and Cassady to a match on Monday's Raw.
Ziggler issued a challenge of his own. After losing to The Lone Wolf at Extreme Rules in a No Disqualification match, he told Corbin he wanted to face him in a different kind of contest.
As the Raw preview stated, "Ziggler will face Corbin in a technical wrestling match, a bout that will showcase the NCAA standout's grappling prowess against the imposing brawler."
Whether Cena will be a part of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture right away is unclear, but the next big title bout is already set. Seth Rollins will challenge Roman Reigns at the Money in the Bank PPV.
With that match set, count on lots of animosity to build between the two on Monday night. The Raw preview made that clear.
It read: "Given the storied history between Reigns and Rollins, don't expect the pair to wait patiently for their June 19 championship clash before throwing fists again."
With both the NBA and NHL playoffs potentially siphoning viewership from WWE, competition for ratings is going to be as tough as some of the battles in the ring. Raw will have plenty of firepower in that fight, though.
Cena's return, Money in the Bank buzz and whatever this hatch campaign is all about assure that Raw will be mighty intriguing.
