Warriors vs. Thunder Game 6 Was Highest-Rated Game of 2015-16 Season

Matt FitzgeraldMay 29, 2016

The Golden State Warriors' 108-101 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday was the NBA's highest-rated game of the entire season.

Turner Sports PR provided the ratings details for what was an epic Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals at Chesapeake Energy Arena:

The defending NBA champion Warriors staved off elimination for a second straight contest thanks largely to Klay Thompson's playoff-record 11 three-pointers en route to 41 points.

Thompson and Stephen Curry, who scored 22 of his 31 points in the second half, stepped up big down the stretch for Golden State.

It was a different story for the Thunder's marquee duo of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant. ESPN Stats & Info noted how their struggles in big moments have been a trend in the playoffs:

Golden State will have home-court advantage for Monday's decisive Game 7 at Oracle Arena.

After a record-setting 73-win season to back up their NBA championship from last year, the Warriors appeared to be losing momentum en route to a 3-1 series deficit against Oklahoma City. Now the tables have turned ahead of Monday's win-or-go-home scenario.

Adding to the stakes of Game 7 is Durant's impending free agency. Should the Thunder lose, he may be more tempted to leave Westbrook's side and search for a new place to play the prime of his career.

Should the Warriors advance, they'll go from the precipice of a monumental, anticlimactic disappointment of a playoff exit to four wins away from a championship repeat.

If the score is close entering the final minutes of Monday's series closer, Game 6 may well have provided the persuasive microcosm to suggest Golden State will prevail.
