WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from May 25
Nia Jax may have won the Triple Threat No. 1 Contender's match Wednesday night, thus cashing her ticket to TakeOver and a showdown with Asuka, but her two opponents emerged as the biggest winners from the May 25 episode of NXT.
Alexa Bliss has spent the better part of six months as the most underappreciated wrestler on the NXT roster, a performer whose understanding and execution of facial expressions and body language is as integral to the quality of her work as her actual in-ring exploits. So good yet so underutilized, her lack of presence on the brand's television program is a problem that has been fixed in recent weeks.

Wednesday night, she once again proved her worth, holding the main event of the show together like glue and showcasing her skills to a worldwide audience in the process. Bliss was ruthless, wasting little time isolating one opponent. Instead, she took down Carmella and then fearlessly targeted Jax, all in the name of earning that championship opportunity that has eluded her.
Carmella, on the other hand, once again established herself as the breakout star of the women's division. A highly charismatic competitor, she has a connection with the audience that cannot be manufactured. She could jump to Raw and SmackDown tomorrow and be the most popular star on the women's roster, thanks in large part to that aforementioned charisma and her crowd-pleasing offensive skill set.
While Bliss held the May 25 main event together, it was Carmella who gave fans the lovable underdog they could cheer late as she threw caution to the wind, diving through the ropes and off the top turnbuckle, all in an attempt to put Jax down for the count.
Neither woman was successful in their bid to halt the unstoppable force that was Jax, but they performed up to the moment and the result was a fun, energetic and wildly entertaining main event.
Winner: Austin Aries

The biggest issue facing Austin Aries thus far into his NXT run has been the lack of opportunity to connect with the audience. Wednesday night, he took center stage, and for the first time was able to give them a glimpse into his motivations and why he came to the brand.
The allure of greatness beckons him. He wants to prove himself the best and, in the process, capture the NXT Championship. He called out Samoa Joe and Finn Balor by name, warning them that it is only a matter of time before The Greatest Man That Ever Lived is the top dog in NXT.
The announcement from William Regal of an Aries-Shinsuke Nakamura main event at TakeOver only elevated the segment, providing Aries with his first truly great night of character development. The upcoming bout gives fans something to look forward to and instantly intensifies the heat for A-Double going forward.
After a bumpy few months with the brand, Aries looks to be back on track and headed toward higher-profile stories as the summer arrives.
Loser: No Way Jose

The fact that the No Way Jose character even made it to television is baffling. Straight out of 1994 WWE, it is seemingly the antithesis of everything NXT is and has been to this point in its history. The wrestler himself may be immensely talented, but he is handcuffed by the gimmick, which feels incredibly stale despite having appeared only three times in official matches.
There is a definite ceiling on the character, one it is far closer to this early than anyone would like to admit.
The character is dead in the water, a one-dimensional personality that may have audiences up and dancing along with his entrance music, but one that inspires little in the way of goodwill once the bell rings.
If something does not change, or the character is not scrapped completely, the man behind the smiling, dancing and stupid finishing maneuvers will go the way of Adam Rose, leaving fans asking what may have been rather than what is.
Winner: Nia Jax

Just because her opponents were the biggest winners from Wednesday's broadcast does not by any means suggest that Nia Jax was not a winner herself. After consistent improvement on her part, and a strong victory over former champion Bayley last week, the unstoppable force rolled into Full Sail University this week and defeated the game Carmella and Alexa Bliss, earning herself a women's title match against Asuka at TakeOver.
Jax bumped around for her opponents, and looked good doing it. So often in the early portion of her NXT career, the top villain on the women's roster was the stereotypical dominant competitor, rarely taken off her feet as she tore through her opposition. Lately, though, she has proved her ability to bump for her opponents, something that has added drama to the contests and helped create a sense of unpredictability to the bouts she competes in.
As NXT continues to reset its women's division in the wake of Dana Brooke and Emma's recent call-ups, Jax remains the best bet to carry the division into the future, especially with Bayley and Asuka certain to be main roster stars sooner than later.
