WWE Money in the Bank 2016: Full Card Predictions After Extreme Rules

Ryan DilbertMay 23, 2016

As Seth Rollins charged into the ring at Extreme Rules with bad intentions, he left no doubt what the WWE Money in the Bank 2016 main event will be. His former brother-in-arms was his first target after returning from injury.

Rollins holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship over Roman Reigns' fallen body served as a silent announcement.

Elsewhere on the Extreme Rules card, the audience saw hints and precursors to what battles will unfold at Money in the Bank. The Miz is sure to face a familiar foe. The New Day are set for their biggest test to date. And Rusev will be suffering from deja vu on June 19.

Breaking down the foreshadowing that Extreme Rules doled out, the following is a look at what to expect come Money in the Bank.

The Dudley Boyz vs. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady

1 of 7

Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady have had issues with The Dudley Boyz from the moment they arrived on the WWE stage. If it weren't for Amore suffering a concussion at Payback, this battle might have happened at Extreme Rules.

Instead, WWE had Big Cass tangle with Bubba Ray and D-Von in unofficial action. Cassady insulted The Dudley Boyz before trading punches with them in the ring.

That's a clear sign that this feud is continuing and that the company is invested in it.

So far, fans have roared for Amore and Cassady. Count on WWE trying to take advantage of that. The babyfaces will kick-start their momentum by way of clashing with the veteran Dudleys.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

2 of 7

Bray Wyatt vs. Dean Ambrose vs. AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio

The annual Money in the Bank ladder match will feature a number of newcomers and two former winners of the dangerous bout.

Styles is poised to move out of the WWE title picture after losing to Roman Reigns for the second straight pay-per-view. Seth Rollins' return looks to have ended the Styles-Reigns story, leaving The Phenomenal One to showcase his ability in a match where he will surely shine.

Ambrose looks to be done with his own feud. He knocked off Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules, leaving the heel covered in thumbtacks. That marks two PPV wins against Y2J and likely wraps up things between them.

The Lunatic Fringe's next step should be to build on that victory by seeking out the briefcase Rollins cheated him out of two years ago.

Zayn and Owens' ongoing issues are sure to be transplanted into this contest. As SB Nation's Bill Hanstock wrote, "Zayn and Owens continue to have nothing but animosity toward each other and it would be a pretty safe bet to assume they will both have spots in the Money in the Bank ladder match next month."

Sheamus and Del Rio will round out the field. WWE doesn't have anything else going for either man. As former world champs and previous MITB winners, they will add star power to the bout.

The Miz vs. Cesaro (Intercontinental Championship)

3 of 7

Cesaro has a rematch coming his way. He had The Miz beat at Extreme Rules, forcing him to tap out with the Sharpshooter. The referee didn't see the submission, however, allowing the champ to escape once more.

That's surely foreshadowing for Cesaro and Miz's feud to continue, for The King of Swing to demand another title shot.

Moving Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens to the Money in the Bank ladder match will leave Cesaro as the sole challenger for the IC title ahead of Money in the Bank. The Miz and Cesaro can pick up where they left off at Payback. And if The Miz had a few more tricks up his sleeve, he can carry that title on his shoulder as he marches into SummerSlam.

The New Day vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson (Tag Team Championship)

4 of 7

The New Day outlasted The Vaudevillains at Extreme Rules. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson beat up on The Usos to get a win at the pay-per-view.

The folks at Daily DDT tweeted, "New Day rolls on with the belts. Wonder if Anderson and Gallows are next." That's a legitimate thought. It's easy to imagine these teams being on a collision course over the next five weeks.

Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady look to be busy with The Dudley Boyz. The Shining Stars don't have any momentum to speak of yet. Instead, The Club looks like the most formidable team, the one that would create the most spark in a title match against The New Day.

Look for The Vaudevillains to step aside for now, allowing two wrecking balls from New Japan Pro Wrestling to get their shot.

Rusev vs. John Cena (United States Championship)

5 of 7

With his dominant win at Extreme Rules, Rusev is suddenly surging with momentum, looking just as impressive as he did before he lost the U.S. title in 2014.

WWE will further the parallels between the present and that hot stretch for Rusev by having him face the man who dethroned him—John Cena. Chair Shot Reality host Justin LaBar tweeted, "Best thing that can happen for Rusev is Cena returns challenging him & Rusev wins! Credibility & gaining back that momentum!"

Rusev surviving a challenge from Cena (who is set to return on Memorial Day) at Money in the Bank will go a long way to continue this current rejuvenation process for The Bulgarian Brute.

Having such a big star chasing the belt again would boost its prestige. That also provides a stopgap feud for Cena until he goes after Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.

Dana Brooke and Charlotte vs. Natalya and Becky Lynch

6 of 7

Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks is the money match WWE has in its pocket until SummerSlam arrives. Before that, the company's options are limited.

If Charlotte were to take on Natalya it would be the fourth network special or pay-per-view featuring that same match in 2016. Charlotte has taken on Becky Lynch and Paige several times, too. There's a good chance then WWE treats Money in the Bank as a filler show for the women's title.

Dana Brooke helped Charlotte retain at Extreme Rules by disguising herself as Ric Flair. That will surely have Natalya angry with Brooke. And with Lynch's issues with Brooke not close to resolved, it would take no effort to combine those two feuds.

It's not the most attractive matchup, but one that fits into what's happening right now and allows WWE to wait on bringing Banks into the title picture again.

Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

7 of 7

WWE was not the least bit subtle in laying out what it has planned for Roman Reigns.

The world champ survived everything AJ Styles threw at him at Extreme Rules, only to find himself taking more punishment from a returning Seth Rollins. The injured star stormed back on the scene, floored Reigns and then held up the WWE title.

That's as clear a sign as you get: Reigns vs. Rollins is up next.

They have been on the precipice of battling twice before only to have injury get in the way. Emergency surgery had Reigns unable to compete with Rollins at Night of Champions 2014. Then Rollins' ACL tear last year forced WWE's plans to change once more.

Reigns vs. Rollins is a match WWE wants and will finally get to have, granted there are no joint tears or unexpected medical situations between now and Money in the Bank.
