Ronda Rousey, Ex-Manager Reach Lawsuit Settlement Regarding Autobiography
UFC superstar Ronda Rousey reached an agreement with former manager Darin Harvey to make changes to her autobiography in order to avoid a defamation lawsuit.
Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports reported Wednesday that Rousey agreed to make "extremely minor" alterations to the book in order to avoid legal action.
The Yahoo Sports report included a statement from Harvey about the book, Rousey: My Fight/Your Fight, and his role in Rousey's rise during the early stages of her MMA career:
"During the four years we worked together, Ronda easily won all her amateur fights, went 8-0 as a professional, became the first woman to sign with the UFC, and landed roles in several feature films. Her book failed to acknowledge the important role I played in all of that and, in my view, defamed me in several respects.
"
Alexander Polyachenko, Rousey's attorney, told Yahoo Sports the settlement was supposed to remain "100 percent confidential." He noted the changes won't affect the "theme or flow" of the autobiography.
Jesse Holland of MMA Mania reported back in 2014 that the sides previously disagreed over money Harvey claimed to invest in Rousey—around $170,000—as part of an agreement that the former manager felt covered earnings from fighting and other commercial interests.
The bad blood continued to show through after the UFC star's first career loss last November. Harvey told Josh Peter of USA Today the result was "bittersweet" before taking a shot at Rousey.
"I created a monster," Harvey said. "She believed she was as special as the press made her out to be. They give me absolutely no credit for the success of her career. She's not a good person. You don't forget where you came from."
Rousey hasn't returned to the Octagon since her loss to Holly Holm late last year. Although nothing has been made official concerning her comeback bout, UFC President Dana White suggested it could come against Miesha Tate at UFC 205, per Nick Martin of the Washington Post.
Settling the autobiography complaint without having to go the legal route is one less distraction as she starts preparing for her return.
