Analysis

Anderson losing this early is a major mistake. Thankfully, fewer fans actually watch SmackDown in comparison to Raw, so it may fly under the radar. Still, the lackluster use of the former Bullet Club members has been startling, particularly over the last 72 hours, where Anderson and Gallows have been portrayed as little more than lackeys for Styles. WWE Creative must tow a fine line with the two Superstars or risk ruining them before any payoff to the story can be reached.
The pairing between Young and Backlund is certainly interesting, for lack of a better word. The real question is whether or not there are any substantial plans for Young or if this is an excuse to parody Donald Trump for a few months.
The four-way rivalry over the WWE Intercontinental Championship remains one of the hottest on WWE programming thanks to four extraordinary wrestlers and their high-intensity approach to their segments. That looks to be present again come Thursday night.
On paper, this show looks more meaningful than most episodes of SmackDown. Of course, the execution is what is important. Either way, it is a show worth checking out if for no reason other than what promises to be an action-packed main event.
