Gennady Golovkin Calls Out Canelo Alvarez for Next Fight
Gennady Golovkin didn't even wait to get out of the ring after his second-round knockout of Dominic Wade on Saturday night at the Forum in Inglewood, California, to call out Canelo Alvarez and request a fight against the WBC middleweight champion.
"I feel great. I'm here now, and I'm here to stay. I'm not going anywhere. Give me my belt, give me my belt! Let's fight," Golovkin said in the ring, clearly sending a message to Alvarez, per Dan Rafael of ESPN.com.
Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) holds the WBA (Super), IBF and IBO middleweight titles. But after dominating the middleweight division over the course of his career, the 34-year-old is looking for his next challenge.

NFL coach calls CFB transfer players 'clowns'
"Of course, I need big name or big fight," he said. "Today [is] not easy work, just present for my fans."
And the big name he wants is Alvarez.
"It doesn't matter who wins," he said, referencing Alvarez's upcoming bout against Amir Khan on May 7. "Just give me my belt. I need my belt. I'm ready, guys."
Alvarez wouldn't be the first fighter to avoid the dangerous Golovkin, as Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports noted:
Jonathan Snowden of Bleacher Report added that Golovkin is indeed a scary man to face in the ring:
"People think Golovkin is a nice guy because he smiles a lot. But that dude is a monster who comes for your soul. #GGGWade

"Golovkin is a sophisticated boxer. But he walks forward eating punches because fans love it. That's a man right there. #GGGWade

Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) is one of the top draws, and a fight against Golovkin would be the biggest bout for the sport since Floyd Mayweather squared off against Manny Pacquiao. Per Rafael, "Golovkin is Alvarez's mandatory challenge, but when the Alvarez side all but begged to put the fight off until the fall, both agreed to take interim bouts."
That left Golovkin to fight the clearly overmatched Wade, while Alvarez, 25, took a more marketable and appealing bout against Khan. As Rafael wrote, the fight between Alvarez and Golovkin would then presumably take place in September, though that is hardly a guarantee.
If Alvarez does defeat Khan and then fails to fight Golovkin, he could be stripped of his title. Golovkin has made no secret that he wants the fight. On Saturday night, he once again put the ball in Alvarez's court.
