Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade: Live Round-by-Round Reaction and Highlights

Gennady Golovkin didn’t waste any time in knocking out mandatory challenger Dominic Wade in the second round of a mismatch to retain his WBA, IBF and interim WBC Middleweight Championships on Saturday night at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin (35-0, 32 KO) dropped Wade, a prospect dismissed as well out of his league in the weeks leading up to the fight, in the closing seconds of the first round and twice more in the second to close out the show.

GGG was pretty clear in post-fight comments to HBO’s Max Kellerman about what fight he wants next. He called out reigning WBC and lineal middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, who defends his titles against Amir Khan May 7 on HBO pay-per-view.

“Just gimme my belt, I need my belt,” Golovkin, who is Canelo’s mandatory challenger, stated in the ring.

In the co-feature, pound-for-pound king Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez retained his WBC Flyweight Championship by pounding out an impressive unanimous decision over McWilliams Arroyo.

The official cards favored Chocolatito by scores of 120-108, 119-109 and 119-109.

Bleacher Report scored the contest 120-108 for the champion, who retained his flyweight title for the fourth time.

Gonzalez (45-0, 38 KO) was a force of nature. He didn’t take one step back in the fight against an opponent with known punching power and duked it out in a fight that was more exciting than the lopsided scores would indicate.

Arroyo (16-3, 14 KO) never backed down, and he threw everything in his arsenal at Gonzalez, but he ultimately couldn’t cope with the power, speed and pressure brought by an opponent who simply operates on another level.
