
Deron Williams Injury: Updates on Mavericks PG's Abdomen and Recovery
Dallas Mavericks point guard Deron Williams missed Game 3 against the Oklahoma City Thunder while battling a sports hernia and was active to start Game 4 on April 23. However, he reaggravated the injury and left the game. He was ruled out for the season, and the Rockets were eliminated in Game 5. Williams will require surgery.

Williams Comments on Surgery Recovery Timeline

Williams said he will need surgery to repair his sports hernia, which has a recovery period of six to eight weeks, per Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Williams has a player option and said he would love to continue playing for the Mavs, per Price.
Carlisle Comments on Williams' Status

Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle told reporters Williams is done for the season.
Williams Provided Veteran Presence to Backcourt
Williams, 31, averaged 14.1 points (second on the team), 5.8 assists (first on the team) and 2.9 rebounds per game in 65 contests during the regular season for the Mavericks in 2015-16.
He provided stability at point guard, though his health is now a major concern. Now that the Mavericks are eliminated from contention, the focus shifts to getting Williams healthy enough to compete next season, whether that is for Dallas or elsewhere.
