WWE Superstar Power Rankings for Week of April 18
We are starting to see a particular trend at the top of the WWE Superstar Power Rankings, but the bottom half of the list still fluctuates greatly from week to week.
Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows' debut on the April 11 Raw was a huge surprise which set in motion a possible Bullet Club reunion at some point in the future.
WWE has enough storylines going to fill the Payback card and then some, but management is going slowly when it comes to making matches official for the pay-per-view.
The tag team and women's divisions are getting a lot of attention these days with multiple storylines running side-by-side, which is giving a lot of deserving talents more screen time.
Let's take a look at who landed on this week's Power Rankings.
10. Sami Zayn
1 of 10Previous Rank: Unranked
Sami Zayn had two great matches against Chris Jericho and AJ Styles this week but didn't win either of them, which wasn't enough to push him past No. 10 on the list.
Zayn has a strong connection with the crowd and the skills to put on a great match with just about anybody, so a few setbacks likely won't hurt him in the long run.
His feud with Kevin Owens remains one of the more interesting storylines going in WWE today and will only get better once they have their first big showdown on the main roster.
Zayn is being booked as the new underdog sensation, essentially taking the place once occupied by Daniel Bryan. If the crowd gives him even half as much enthusiasm as it gave to Bryan, Zayn will be just fine.
9. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows
2 of 10Previous Rank: Unranked
We all knew Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows would show up in WWE at some point, but nobody expected them to attack The Usos and have one of the most impactful debuts in recent memory.
Anyone who knows about The Bullet Club has been anticipating a possible reunion at WWE, but with Styles doing his own thing and Finn Balor still acting as the face of NXT, it might be a while before we see any form of the stable.
Anderson and Gallows will be a breath of fresh air in the tag team division. They have a more intimidating presence than most other Superstars and bring a large following with them from New Japan Pro Wrestling.
It's too bad they aren't part of the tournament to find No. 1 contenders for The New Day, but it shouldn't take long for them to get in the hunt for the Tag Team Championships.
8. Kevin Owens
3 of 10Previous Rank: Unranked
Kevin Owens might not have won any matches over the past week, but he did have two memorable performances on Raw and SmackDown.
His match against Cesaro on Monday was one of the highlights of the night, and his banter with Dean Ambrose on commentary during the SmackDown main event was one of the best parts of the show.
Owens is one of the most consistent wrestlers on the roster. He is always good on the mic and better in the ring, and he makes anything he does worth watching.
It's a foregone conclusion that Owens and Zayn will have a singles match in the near future. Let's hope WWE gives them the right amount of time to show off their incredible skills.
7. Natalya
4 of 10Previous Rank: No. 8
Natalya gets bumped up the list a spot this week after her victory over Charlotte on Raw in a Women's Championship match.
Unfortunately, due to interference from Ric Flair, Natalya did not get to take home the title. She made Charlotte tap out, but the ref was busy yelling at Flair for pulling him out of the ring.
Natalya will probably get another shot at the belt at Payback, so it's possible she could still go into the summer as women's champion.
With Flair always there to help his daughter, we might see Natalya recruit her uncle Bret to even the odds.
6. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady
5 of 10Previous Rank: No. 4
Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady picked up their first win on the main roster against The Ascension on Thursday's SmackDown.
They also had a great moment on Raw where they talked their usual brand of trash to The Dudley Boyz, but it was SmackDown where we finally got to see them wrestle.
They didn't have a lot of time to work with but made the best of the situation by keeping the pace quick and the action smooth.
Anyone who doesn't watch NXT should keep an eye on these two. They will end up becoming one of the best acts in WWE very soon.
5. Roman Reigns
6 of 10Previous Rank: No. 9
Roman Reigns jumped up the list a few spots after an interesting change of direction on Raw.
Instead of locking horns with Bray Wyatt, Reigns found himself on the same side as his former rival when the two were booked to face The League of Nations.
As expected, fans were behind Wyatt and against Reigns, but this brief alliance changes the dynamic of their relationship after over two years of on-and-off feuding.
Reigns has been showing signs of a possible heel turn lately, and considering he is facing the popular AJ Styles at Payback, the pay-per-view may be the perfect time to pull the trigger and make him a bad guy.
4. Cesaro
7 of 10Previous Rank: No. 4
The King of Swing kept the momentum from his big post-WrestleMania return going with a big win over Kevin Owens on Raw.
Owens is someone who rarely loses cleanly on television, so his going down to Cesaro's finisher for the three-count was a big deal.
Cesaro is returning at a time when a lot of people are in the midst of pushes, so he might not shoot up to the top of the card like many of us would love.
However, as long as he keeps churning out show-stealing matches, he will get there eventually.
3. Chris Jericho
8 of 10Previous Rank: No. 2
Chris Jericho saw The Highlight Reel taken over by Dean Ambrose and lost to Zayn by disqualification on SmackDown.
While it doesn't sound like he had a great week, he still made his segments some of the best by being more entertaining than anyone else.
The way he and Ambrose played off each other on Raw was hilarious, and his bout with Zayn was outstanding until the final moments, so he still deserves a spot in the top three.
Y2J and Ambrose have already made their feud into one of the best storylines in WWE, so it should get even better when they actually get in the ring for a match.
2. Dean Ambrose
9 of 10Previous Rank: Unranked
When Ambrose took over The Highlight Reel during Raw, he redubbed it The Ambrose Asylum before hitting Jericho with Dirty Deeds.
He continued to promote his "new show" during SmackDown by passing out flyers during the main event and joining the commentary team for an entertaining exchange with Owens.
Ambrose continues to be one of the best characters on WWE television with his trademark brand of humor and top-quality wrestling ability.
His chemistry with Jericho is going to make for a great feud, and hopefully Ambrose will find himself back in the hunt for the title before long.
1. AJ Styles
10 of 10Previous Rank: No. 1
AJ Styles manages to claim the top spot in the Power Rankings two weeks in a row by getting a pair of wins over two game competitors.
He bested Zayn in a great match on Raw and continued his winning ways on SmackDown with a victory over Alberto Del Rio.
Styles doesn't get as much mic time as some of his peers, but his real strength is his wrestling ability, not his promo skills.
Even if he doesn't defeat Reigns at Payback, just being in the main event fighting for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship this soon after his debut is a good sign for his future.
