Errol Spence vs. Chris Algieri: Live Round-by-Round Results and Highlights
Errol Spence Jr. is the real deal, and that might be an understatement.
The 26-year-old graduated from blue-chip prospect to stud welterweight with a fifth-round blitzing of former junior welterweight titlist Chris Algieri on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Spence (20-0, 17 KO) looked every bit the star that he's been hyped as since turning pro after representing the United States at the 2012 Olympics in London, dropping Algieri three times and stopping him with an absolutely vicious left hand near the ropes.
He set the tone early, attacking to the body and using his huge advantage in speed and physical strength to bully Algieri into the ropes and make him a sitting duck for lightning-quick combos to the body and head.
There wasn't anything close about the fight, and, while the result wasn't shocking, the ease with which Spence walked through a fighter who had never been stopped before is sure to put the rest of the boxing world on notice.
