Stephen Curry Drains Historic 400th 3-Pointer

Vanessa de BeaumontJun 1, 2018

"I promise you if I get to 399, I will chuck," Stephen Curry told the San Francisco Chronicle's Rusty Simmons.

But three-pointer No. 400, a collected catch-and-shoot that set the record for most three-pointers made in a single season, was the furthest thing from a haphazard heave. Before this year, no one had ever made more than 300 threes in a single season.

It came early in the third quarter with the Golden State Warriors, up 70-53 over the Memphis Grizzlies, closing in on a record-breaking 73-9 season.

The reigning MVP sprinted from one sideline to the other, cutting under the basket and set up behind a Harrison Barnes screen.

From just inside the top of the key, Andrew Bogut sent a a whizzing chest pass to the Splash Brother and watched as, with a blazing, automatic release, Curry drained the historic trey—leaving the follow-through hanging in the air for good measure.

It wasn't a buzzer-beater. It wasn't a game-winner. It wasn't from half-court.

But it will most certainly not be forgotten.
