The past week has been a busy time for everyone in WWE and NXT. WrestleMania 32 broke several records, a handful of NXT talents debuted on the main roster and two people announced their retirements from the ring.
Let's take a look at some of the biggest stories from the past seven days.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
WrestleMania 32 was a record-breaking event, but the response from fans and those within the industry was less enthusiastic than it has been in past years.
During the pay-per-view, The Rock announced WWE broke its own attendance record by having 101,763 fans at AT&T Stadium. The event also set a record for the longest WWE pay-per-view, coming in at just under five hours for the main show. That's excluding the two-hour pre-show.
As for the action, here is a quick rundown of the results for those of you who may not have wanted to spend your whole Sunday watching wrestling.
- Kalisto defeated Ryback to retain the United States Championship
- Team Total Divas defeated Team B.A.D. and Blonde
- The Usos defeated The Dudley Boyz
- Zack Ryder defeated six other Superstars in a ladder match to become the intercontinental champion
- Chris Jericho defeated AJ Styles
- The League of Nations defeated The New Day
- Brock Lesnar defeated Dean Ambrose
- Charlotte defeated Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks to claim the newly minted Women's Championship, officially retiring the Divas Championship
- The Undertaker defeated Shane McMahon
- Baron Corbin won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
- The Rock defeated Erick Rowan in a surprise match
- Roman Reigns defeated Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Surprisingly, 12 matches is not the most in WrestleMania history. WrestleMania IV featured 16 bouts, and a few other 'Manias have had more than the dozen we saw in Dallas.
The company also issued a press release touting even more broken records, according to Nick Hausman of Wrestle Zone.
- 2.5 million Twitter mentions throughout the weekend, with 1.3 million during the actual broadcast
- Over 250 million videos viewed through WWE's various platforms
- 1.82 million households watched 'Mania through the WWE Network
- $4.55 million in WrestleMania merchandise revenue
The event was a financial success for the company, but it won't go down as one of the most entertaining in the history of the PPV if you go by reactions on social media.
Sting Retires
The 2016 Hall of Fame ceremony had some great moments, like Michael Hayes singing "Badstreet U.S.A." to the live crowd and Snoop Dogg delivering a humble speech about what his induction meant to him.
However, the person who made the most headlines for his speech was the headliner, Sting. He officially announced his retirement during his induction, potentially killing any chance of seeing a dream match with The Undertaker.
We all know retirement doesn't always mean the end of the road. Many wrestlers have retired and returned later for a match or two, but if this is truly the end for The Icon, he can rest easy knowing he had one of the greatest runs in the history of pro wrestling.
His matches against Ric Flair will stand the test of time, and his ability to change his character to stay relevant gave him more longevity than most.
He was one of the reasons so many people watched Nitro instead of Raw during the Monday Night Wars, and he helped make WCW a real threat to Vince McMahon's empire.
It will be sad if he never sets foot in the ring again, but he gave us over 30 years of memories and sacrificed his body to entertain millions of fans around the world. He deserves to enjoy the rest of his life without worrying about injuring himself again.
Brie Bella Also Retires
Brie Bella confirmed rumors of WrestleMania 32 being her last match during an interview with Matthew Artus of WWE.com.
"Yes. WrestleMania 32 was my last match.
I wouldn't say my last match forever, just my last match that you'll see in a while. I am here at home because Daniel Bryan and I want to start a family soon. Or I shouldn't say soon — we want to start it now!
We're going to start having babies, so I have to put my career on hold. It doesn't mean that I'm going to be gone. I'm going to be an ambassador for WWE. But I'm going to try motherhood.
"
Brie may not have been the best wrestler, but she was always a hard worker and a great role model for young fans.
She will still be featured on Total Divas alongside Daniel Bryan and her sister, Nikki, so it's not like she will fade into obscurity.
If anything, she will help make Total Divas about more than just wrestlers. If the show lasts a few more years, it could end up chronicling her journey into motherhood and whatever other ventures she and Bryan focus on going forward.
WWE Changes Divas Division to Women's Division
The Divas Championship—and the term Diva in general—has been the subject of a lot of criticism for several years, and WWE finally did something about it.
Lita revealed a brand new Women's Championship belt during WrestleMania, which means the butterfly design is officially a thing of the past. Hallelujah.
This is a sign WWE is taking women's wrestling seriously, and the fact that Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch had one of the best matches at WrestleMania showcased how good these Superstars are.
"GREAT READ: @StephMcMahon pens a tribute to the @WWE Women's Championshiphttps://t.co/DIMWI0ubQ1
— Joey Styles (@JoeyStyles) April 4, 2016"
This move also validates all the hard work that the talented women on the roster put in to change the perception of what a female wrestler should be.
We may criticize the company for a lot of things, but this is one time where WWE did right by its performers and the fans.
Shinsuke Nakamura Sheds More Blood
Shinsuke Nakamura received a bloody nose during his debut match against Sami Zayn at NXT TakeOver: Dallas, but that wasn't his worst injury during his first week on the job.
During a match against Manny Andrade at a WWE live event, Nakamura was busted open and required six staples to close the wound on the back of his head.
WWE released a black-and-white photo of the wound through its Instagram account, and Nakamura posted a response on Twitter saying he was fine.
Nakamura is known as The King of Strong Style, so he is used to hard-hitting matches that may leave him with a few scars. It's unlikely the injury will cause him to miss any time in the ring.
Total Divas Cast Sees Major Overhaul, Maryse Returns to WWE
As seen during Raw and SmackDown, Maryse has returned to WWE and has been accompanying her husband, The Miz, to the ring for his matches.
It seemed like the return might be temporary at first, but Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc. reported she is back with the company and will join the cast of Total Divas.
The French-Canadian bombshell's addition won't be the only change made to the show. Mandy Rose, Alicia Fox and Rosa Mendes will not be returning next season.
Taking their places will be Lana, Naomi and Renee Young. Lana is engaged to Rusev, and Young has been dating Dean Ambrose for quite some time, so both of those relationships will be featured on the show in addition to the return of Naomi and Jimmy Uso.
The show has seen several cast changes during its four seasons, so this is nothing new. The only real constants have been The Bella Twins, Eva Marie and Natalya, and that is not likely to change.
Shaq vs. Big Show
Shaquille O'Neal appeared during the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania, and he immediately rekindled his feud with Big Show.
The two ended up being eliminated by everyone else in the match, but this might not be the last time we see the NBA great inside a WWE ring.
During an interview with Renee Young, Shaq made it clear he still wanted to face Big Show at some point in the future. Celebrity matches are rarely worth watching, but Shaq has the popularity, size and physicality needed to make any potential confrontation with Show entertaining.
Stephen Amell proved it was possible for a celeb to have a good match at last year's SummerSlam, so it's possible we could see the two giants lock horns at an upcoming PPV.
Several NXT Superstars Called Up to Main Roster
Following Baron Corbin's big win at WrestleMania, WWE has called up several other NXT Superstars to the main roster.
Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady debuted on Raw to begin a feud with The Dudley Boyz, Apollo Crews wrestled his first match on the main roster on the same night and The Vaudevillains made their first non-NXT appearance on SmackDown against The Lucha Dragons.
Crews, Amore and Cassady received great reactions from the WWE Universe, but Simon Gotch and Aiden English were not given the same kind of warm welcome.
The long list of talented Superstars on the main roster who got their starts in NXT proves the developmental system WWE has in place is working, and it will only continue to get better from here.
With talents like Finn Balor, Samoa Joe and Bayley on the horizon and signings like Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles, the company's future looks bright. We just have to hope WWE Creative can find a way to use all of these Superstars to their fullest potentials.
Which NXT Superstar would you like to see called up to the main roster next?
