Pacquiao vs. Bradley 3: Fight Time, Online Odds and Projected Winner

Tim DanielsApr 9, 2016

Manny Pacquiao is set for what could be the final fight of his illustrious career Saturday night, as he takes on Timothy Bradley for the third time. The rubber match marks Pac-Man's first bout since his high-profile loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year.

Bradley is probably the fighter who needs the victory more, though. He's coming off an impressive knockout of Brandon Rios, and beating Pacquiao for a second time would show his controversial triumph in the first meeting wasn't a fluke.

Let's check out all of the important details for Saturday night's encounter. That's followed by an updated look at the odds and a preview of the hyped matchup.

Fight Preview

It came as somewhat of a surprise when Pacquiao picked Bradley for this fight over the likes of Amir Khan, Danny Garcia and Terence Crawford. That said, it gives him a chance to settle a lingering score before possibly walking away from the ring for good.

His future status is still in limbo, though. Dan Rafael of ESPN reported last October that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum expected Pac-Man to retire after his next fight as his focus shifted toward becoming a senator in his native Philippines.

Pacquiao has seemed to back off that stance, at least a bit, during the buildup to the bout. The 37-year-old southpaw stated he would let the people decide whether he should be able to fight should the right opportunity arise, per George Willis of the New York Post.

"I don't know," Pacquiao said. "At that time, God willing, I'll be a senator in the Philippines and I'll ask the people of the Philippines if they'll allow it. My attention and focus is to serve the people. I'll ask the people if they agree to that."

One thing's for sure: The eight-division world champion has a lot on his plate right now. The question is whether Bradley can capitalize on that to score another upset victory.

As mentioned, Desert Storm won the first matchup between the two back in 2012. But it came via split decision and could have easily went the other way. If he's unable to win again, or at least make it more competitive than Pac-Man's win in the second meeting, it will diminish the initial accomplishment.

The American understands the stakes. Chris Williams of Boxing News 24 passed along the California native's thoughts about what he stands to gain:

"

It should be a different outcome. I just listen to Teddy [Atlas]. If I follow the game plan. If I do everything I was trained to do like I did in the Rios fight. I listen to Teddy, and I do exactly what I was trained to do, I should have no problems beating Manny Pacquiao. You can be remembered forever for beating Manny Pacquiao like that. I want to be remembered, and I want to be talked about. Every time they mention Manny Pacquiao by someone in the future, I want to be mentioned.

"

As a bonus, he'd receive a special belt for his efforts, as highlighted by CNN Philippines:

The most important thing for Bradley is saving some energy for the latter stages of the fight. He came out aggressive in the second fight, like he was trying to prove something after the controversy clouded his win in the first meeting.

Although that strategy worked to an extent, he didn't have enough left in the tank to remain competitive in the final rounds, and Pacquiao pulled away. Given the fact this is another fight with a strong chance of going to the scorecards, he needs to pace himself better.

On the flip side, it will be intriguing to see whether Pacquiao returns to the ring revitalized after more than 11 months away. He didn't look like himself against Mayweather and admitted after the fight he'd been dealing with a shoulder injury.

Pac-Man should hold the clear edge if he's all the way back to full strength. He doesn't possess the same power he did during his peak years, but he's still the more well-rounded fighter.

All told, Pacquiao should be able to take control of the fight in the middle rounds and cruise to the finish line for the 58th, and potentially final win of his terrific career.

Prediction: Pacquiao by unanimous decision
