WWE WrestleMania 2016: Results That Will Have Biggest Impact at Payback

Aaron BowerApr 6, 2016

For a night that offered plenty of food for thought for WWE and its fans, the dust has had little time to settle after WrestleMania 32 before the company rolls out its next offering on pay-per-view, Payback.

A show that is traditionally built around the fallout of WrestleMania each and every year, the 2016 edition of Payback will build on a number of results from 'Mania that set things up further for the coming weeks.

Whether new champions or old ones escaped 'Mania with the big prizes, here are some results from Sunday's show that will set the tone for what fans can expect at Payback.

Charlotte defeats Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch

There were plenty of surprising results at WrestleMania, but one of the biggest was Charlotte's success against Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks.

Many expected the first titleholder of the rebranded Women's Championship to be Banks, but with father Ric Flair's help, Charlotte managed to escape Texas with the belt.

However, you would expect there to be some sort of impact from this result in terms of Charlotte's next opponent at Payback, with Banks surely the one to step up to the plate.

There was a slight hint that WWE may opt to give Natalya a shot following the scenes on Raw this past week, but Banks must surely be still in the running for another title match.

She hasn't had a one-on-one bout yet, and when she does, she'll probably end up as champion. That could take place at Payback.

Zack Ryder winning the Intercontinental Championship

Another big surprise at WrestleMania came right at the start of the main show, when Zack Ryder upset the odds to claim the Intercontinental Championship.

However, the immediate elation of Ryder's victory was taken away from him less than 24 hours later, when The Miz took the championship from him on Raw with a little help from wife Maryse.

Despite another match on SmackDown later this week, you would expect this rivalry to go right through to Payback.

Don't expect Ryder to win the title back on SmackDown either, as that would mean three title changes in less than a week, which cannot be good news for the credibility of the championship.

Instead, Payback seems like a more viable location for Ryder to get his revenge and win the title.

Roman Reigns defeats Triple H

Clearly, the fact that there is a new WWE world heavyweight champion has a bearing on what is going to happen at Payback.

We already know that Roman Reigns will take on AJ Styles next, with that bout likely to happen at Payback next month.

What's interesting here, though, is how the potential time span for this rivalry to play out.

Is it just a holding feud for Reigns until someone like Seth Rollins comes back, perhaps? Is WWE waiting for another top star to return before taking on Reigns?

That would be harsh on Styles, and it would certainly be great to see this rivalry go out over a few months.

But you feel the company would have to turn one of them in the next few weeks to ensure that is the case. However, the fact that Styles is competing for the world title is nothing but good news, irrespective of who turns heel or not.
