Biyombo Sets Raptors Franchise Record with 25 Rebounds

Bleacher Report MilestonesMar 18, 2016

Toronto Raptors center Bismack Biyombo played a huge role in Thursday's 101-94 overtime win against the Indiana Pacers, setting a new franchise single-game record by pulling down 25 rebounds, per Sportsnet Stats.

With starting center Jonas Valanciunas sidelined for a second straight contest because of a hand injury, Biyombo joined the starting lineup and proceeded to set personal season-high marks for points (16) and minutes (42), in addition to his career-best 25 rebounds.

The 23-year-old Congolese big man does have one other 20-board performance in his career, having grabbed exactly 20 rebounds in a Dec. 22 win over the Dallas Mavericks, per Basketball-Reference.com's play index.

Though still quite limited on the offensive end, Biyombo has a clear knack for piling up rebounds and blocks when he's on the floor, averaging 8.2 boards and 1.6 swats (but only 5.6 points) over just 22.6 minutes per game this season.

His per-36-minute marks of 13.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks compare favorably to the numbers produced by top big men, making him a perfect complement to the more offensive-minded Valanciunas.

With Biyombo under contract through 2016-17 and Valanciunas signed through 2018-19, it appears the two will continue splitting playing time for at least one more season, though it's quite possible the Raptors will be approached this offseason about trading one of them to a center-needy team.
