Shinsuke Nakamura, Bullet Club and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Ryan DilbertFeb 24, 2016

The New Japan Pro Wrestling invasion of WWE NXT is fully underway as Shinsuke Nakamura officially arrived and two members of Bullet Club set the table for their entry into the developmental brand.

As surreal as the idea is, Nakamura is officially a member of the WWE roster. In due time, Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson will join him. Rumors have pointed to this for much of the year, but it's still hard to wrap one's head around the idea of these wrestlers actually joining forces with WWE.

In other NXT news, a number of prospects are getting a spot on an upcoming card in Toronto, Mick Foley reached out to a female prospect and Nakamura made an excellent suggestion for WWE's cruiserweight series.

WWE Officially Signs Shinsuke Nakamura

Shinsuke Nakamura, The King of Strong Style, the Michael Jackson of the squared circle, is really here.

WWE announced on its official website that Nakamura has inked a deal with the company. The release also mentioned he will make his debut at NXT TakeOver: Dallas.

Word of his debut had already emerged, but the status of Nakamura's deal was unclear until now. One had reason to be nervous after seeing Willie Mack get so close to joining NXT before WWE changed its mind.

Now the question becomes, how long will Nakamura be a part of NXT? And does WWE have plans for him to jump to the main roster in a hurry? His talent and charisma is top-tier level, but the company may view him as it does Samoa Joe—a way to bring star power to the developmental brand.

The Bullet Club on Its Way

AJ Styles is already making an impact on the WWE roster. Shinsuke Nakamura will be doing so at WrestleMania weekend. Two fellow NJPW wrestlers won't be far behind them.

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline reported, "Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson did their farewells at yesterday's New Japan show at Korakuen Hall. They will start shortly in WWE."

WWE has a myriad of options with how to present this tag team of bruisers. It can reunite them with Styles, have Finn Balor lead them again as he did in Japan or else keep them on their own. The last option would either bolster a strong tag team division at NXT or help flesh out the thin one on the main roster.

It's not yet clear whether the company wants to bring in Gallows and Anderson as part of NXT or WWE proper. It looks as if we won't have to wait long to find out.

NXT Stars Heading to Toronto Live Special

Opportunity is coming for a handful of NXT prospects. The next WWE Network live special will welcome the tag team champs and a few others.

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline reported, "Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson, Enzo Amore & Big Cass and Sami Zayn are all scheduled for the 3/12 show in Toronto which is the live network special. Whether they'll be on the TV special isn't clear."

Just working with the main roster on this show in a dark match would be a great experience for all involved. This could, though, be a shrewd way to introduce Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady to a wider audience before calling them up.

It would also be smart to feature a match of two NXT teams colliding, using the Toronto show as an NXT-WWE crossover.

Mick Foley Apologizes to NXT Prospect

4 of 5

Mick Foley was clearly unhappy with Amanda Saccomanno after the WWE Tough Enough finale aired. In reaction to her calling Sara Lee a "ring rat," Foley wrote on Facebook that Saccamanno's comments were an example of "mean-girl bullying, and the antithesis of showing tolerance and respect."

Fast-forward to six months later, when Foley learned producers had instructed her to go that route to spice up the TV show. He then changed his tune.

Foley posted a long explanation on his Facebook page, where he wrote, "I had a responsibility to know my facts before I took to a keyboard to attack Amanda. I did not live up to that responsibility. And I'm truly sorry for that."

This is an interesting peek into just how scripted the "reality" show was. Viewers know that producers are pulling strings behind the scenes, but to know exactly how they were pulled is a different situation.

It makes one question how much of each contestant's personality was put on.

Other News, Notes

As seen in the above video and on WWE.com, WWE is now referring to Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson as "The Revival."

That's a much stronger name than The Mechanics, as they were first known. Simply "Dash and Dawson" had a ring to it, though.

NXT prospects recently had a chance to interact with a star from the past. Mike Johnson reported on PWInsider.com that Tatanka visited the WWE NXT event in Crystal River, Florida, on Feb. 18. Hopefully, the students of the squared circle soaked up everything the veteran had to share.

Although Shinsuke Nakamura just arrived, he's already trying to get in WWE's ear. Japanese newspaper Tokyo Sports (h/t Johnson) reported that Nakamura recommended Kota Ibushi to WWE for its Global Cruiserweight Series.

Ibushi is currently a free agent and is a superbly talented ring performer. WWE would be smart to take Nakamura's advice. The upcoming cruiserweight show should be a showcase of talents like Ibushi.
