WWE Superstar Power Rankings for 2/22/2016

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 22, 2016

This week's WWE Superstar Power Rankings look completely different from last week's list, and the reason for that is the results of the Fastlane pay-per-view.

Not only did the majority of the matches on the card meet or exceed expectations, but we got significant storyline development on some fronts. No titles changed hands, but we did find out who would be challenging Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 32.

These rankings are based mostly on the results of Fastlane. so don't be upset if your favorite Superstars don't rank where you think they should.

Let's take a look at where everyone fell on this week's list.

Honorable Mention: Brie Bella

1 of 11

Brie Bella might not have made the top 10 this week, but she deserves to be recognized for her performance at Fastlane.

For the past several months, all the focus has been on Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Charlotte. All the Divas who were there before the NXT Divas were called up were put on the back burner, but Brie has upped her game to stay relevant.

With Nikki Bella on the shelf, Brie has the opportunity to step out of her shadow and stand on her own two feet. She might be retiring soon, but that doesn't mean she is going to rest on her laurels.

Brie can keep contributing by putting over the new top Divas before she hangs up her boots to start a family, which is exactly what she did at Fastlane by losing to Charlotte.

10. The New Day

2 of 11

Previous Rank: No. 10

The New Day didn't have a match at Fastlane, but its segment with Edge and Christian did provide a few entertaining moments, which is why the heels stayed even at No. 10 this week.

Xavier Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston have been the most consistent act in WWE for quite some time. They always put all their energy into everything they do and aren't afraid to look like fools for the sake of entertaining the crowd.

There was a lot to be desired in their segment from Sunday, but they were still the best part of The Cutting Edge Peep Show.

It appears The League of Nations may pursue the tag titles going forward, so it's possible Woods and Company could turn babyface. The great thing about their gimmick is how they don't have to change their characters. They can keep doing the same shtick against heels and fans will cheer for them.

9. Kalisto

3 of 11

Previous Rank: Unranked

His size and style are always going to invite comparisons to Rey Mysterio, but Kaslito is slowly building his own reputation as one of the best high-flyers in the world.

Alberto Del Rio is a great heel, and their natural chemistry helped them put on one of the more exciting matches we have seen during their feud.

The only downside to his United States title run is Sin Cara is now an afterthought. The Lucha Dragons are still one of the best tag teams on the roster, so let's hope WWE finds a way to keep them together while Kalisto continues his singles run as U.S. champion.

8. Chris Jericho

4 of 11

Previous Rank: No. 2

Chris Jericho fell down the list a bit this week, but it's not because he didn't perform well. In fact, the only reason why he is so much lower is because he put AJ Styles over in their match.

Jericho was the perfect first feud for Styles. He is an established veteran with a track record of putting on incredible matches against opponents of all shapes and sizes.

Y2J is the perfect mix of technical ability, agility and charisma. His experience and popularity instantly elevates his opponents, and putting over Styles showed his willingness to help other people reach that next level.

We don't know how long Jericho will be around during his current run with the company, but hopefully he'll still be there for WrestleMania 32.

7. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch

5 of 11

Previous Rank: Sasha Banks No. 8, Becky Lynch Watch List

Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch managed to work together to pick up the win over Naomi and Tamina at Fastlane and gave us a fun match in the process.

The great thing about this storyline is how their partnership wasn't forced. It's not like they became best friends out of nowhere. They have had plenty of friction during their time as allies, which gave the storyline a more natural feel.

The Divas are no longer the sideshow of WWE. It's women like Banks and Lynch who are making fans believe in women's wrestling again, and their match at Fastlane is a great example of why they deserve the attention they are getting.

Naomi and Tamina were great antagonists during their encounter, but Banks and Lynch were just a little bit better, and which is why they moved up in this week's rankings.

Considering they were a team and both women used their finishers to win the match, it was impossible to rank them separately.

6. Charlotte

6 of 11

Previous Rank: Unranked

Charlotte established her dominance with a win over Brie Bella to retain her Divas Championship, which helped her break into the power rankings after being excluded last week.

The Divas division is evening out. It's not as hot as it was during the Divas Revolution, but we are starting to see consistent storylines and good performances from everyone featured.

Charlotte has convinced as a heel ever since her father started accompanying her to the ring, but now it's time for her to make her own legacy.

Ric Flair is obviously going to provide support, but he is no longer needed to get her heat. After Flair had minimal involvement during Sunday's match, Charlotte proved she can do it on her own.

5. Kevin Owens

7 of 11

Previous Rank: No. 6

Kevin Owens was able to retain his Intercontinental Championship against Dolph Ziggler in another great match in their ongoing feud.

Since the day he debuted in NXT, Owens has been showing people why he was such a hot commodity on the indy scene.

His biggest asset is his ability to make you believe his promos, but he is also capable of putting on five-star matches against the best in the business.

He only jumped up one spot in the rankings, but that doesn't take away from how good he was at Fastlane. Everything from his taunting of Michael Cole to his chemistry with Ziggler contributed to one of the highlights of the night.

4. Brock Lesnar

8 of 11

Previous Rank: Unchanged

Brock Lesnar stayed in the exact same spot in the rankings this week. His match with Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns was brutal and entertaining, but he wasn't involved in the outcome, so it's hard to justify moving him up or down the list.

While he made the bout exciting, Lesnar was little more than a prop at Fastlane. He was just there to make people think he would win, so it would be a little more surprising when Reigns' his hand was raised at the end of the night.

It's tough to say where The Beast goes from here. He is almost definitely going to be at WrestleMania 32, but now his opponent is a mystery.

He has already fought and defeated all the biggest stars in the company, so perhaps it's time to elevate someone new with a feud against the most dangerous man in the locker room.

3. Dean Ambrose

9 of 11

Previous Rank: No. 1

Dean Ambrose dropped a little on the list this week, but it doesn't mean he didn't put on a hell of a performance at Fastlane against Lesnar and Reigns.

Ambrose was the favorite of most fans in attendance, and he stopped at nothing to prove he was worthy of being in the main event against someone like Lesnar.

Both the little things (slapping Lesnar in the face) and the big moments (using a steel chair to take out both opponents) helped him stand out, but since he is a good soldier, he took the loss so his friend could continue his push.

WWE obviously sees value in Ambrose, since it keeps putting him in big feuds, but he has yet to really receive a main event push. Hopefully, officials will give him the title reign he deserves once they are done shoving Reigns down everyone's throats.

2. AJ Styles

10 of 11

Previous Rank: No. 3

AJ Styles has been churning out great performances since the moment he debuted with WWE and continued to prove why he is called The Phenomenal One with a win over Chris Jericho.

Their match at Fastlane was one of the highlights of the show and likely ended up being the match of the night for many viewers.

Styles is no spring chicken at 38 years old but is showing no signs of slowing down. If anything, he is just as versatile as he was during his TNA days.

The big win over Y2J helped, but it was his actual performance that pushed him up the list to No. 2. He took big risks and showed off his technical ability against one of the greatest technicians of the modern era.

It's going to be interesting to see where WWE goes with him now that his feud with Jericho is seemingly over. He might not be ready to be thrust into the main event scene but could pursue one of the midcard titles.

Owens was the one who eliminated Styles from the Royal Rumble, so there is already a storyline in place for those two to fight over the Intercontinental Championship.

1. Roman Reigns

11 of 11

Previous Rank: No. 9

Following the main event of Fastlane, Roman Reigns moves to the No. 1 spot in the rankings. He might not have pinned Brock Lesnar to get the win, but he still holds a victory over The Beast and The Lunatic Fringe.

Now that Reigns is the No. 1 contender to Triple H's WWE World Heavyweight Championship, we can expect The Authority to put him through the ringer in the coming weeks.

Reigns' performance at Fastlane was great despite the way everyone in the arena reacted to him. It's starting to feel like people are booing him because it's the cool thing to do, not because he deserves it.

There's no denying how much Reigns has improved every aspect of his game since he fought Lesnar at WrestleMania 31. People seem to have a problem with his status as Vince McMahon's golden boy, but if you look at things with an open mind, you will see how much better he is.

WrestleMania 32 is several weeks away, so WWE has plenty of time to find a way for Reigns to get the crowd back on his side.
