4.39% of Barcelona's Total Goals Since 1899 Have Been Scored by Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi continues to set record after record, and his statistics never fail to amaze, but this one might just be the most ridiculous yet.
The world was in awe of Barcelona's superstar on Wednesday when he became the first player to score 300 La Liga goals in a 3-1 win over Sporting Gijon.
His 301st (Barca's second on the night) was also the club's 10,000th goal, adding to the 9,000th he scored against Almeria in 2010.
It brings his total in all competitions for the Spanish giants to 439 in 512 appearances—a record made all the more ridiculous when viewed in the context of the club's decorated history, per MailOnline.
Just let this sink in: Messi has scored 4.39 percent of all the goals scored in Barcelona's 117-year history. It means he averages almost one in 20 of their efforts since the club's formation in 1899.
It's yet another incredible statistic for the 28-year-old, who will be looking to add to that proportion when his league-leading side visit Las Palmas on Saturday before the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Arsenal.
