NFL Combine 2016: Jared Goff, Carson Wentz Highlight All QBs to Throw

Tim DanielsFeb 18, 2016

All of the quarterbacks scheduled to attend the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine reportedly will take part in the passing drills during the predraft event.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports confirmed the entire QB group, led by Jared Goff of California and Carson Wentz of North Dakota State, will throw at the combine.

Whether the top quarterbacks will showcase their passing skills has become one of the main questions leading up to the combine on an annual basis. Although there's only so much teams can learn from the controlled practice environment, having everybody take part is still a plus.

Goff, who's currently rated as the top quarterback available by CBS Sports, set the tone earlier in the month by confirming his plan to throw during the event at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. He explained the decision to Mike Florio on PFT Live.

"I'll do it all," Goff said. "I'll throw and I'll do it all. I think it's the right thing to do. I've got nothing to hide. Go out there and throw and have some fun."

He's likely battling Wentz for the top spot at the position, which could result in being drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the second overall pick. Memphis' Paxton Lynch and Michigan State's Connor Cook represent the next wave of options, but there's still time for them to climb the rankings as well.

A lot of emphasis will be placed on the event now that all of the notable quarterbacks are expected to compete in the drills. It's already a popular event for fans looking to get their offseason football fix, but this will bring some added hype to the equation.

Exactly how much stock should be placed on throwing against air in workout clothes is up for debate, though. New England Patriots star Tom Brady, an eventual sixth-round pick, didn't exactly light it up during his appearance at the combine, and he's gone on to do just fine for himself.

That said, there's still pressure on Goff and Wentz to solidify their status as the top two quarterbacks in the class. It's unlikely the combine will completely settle the debate, but it could give one of them a leg up heading into the final stages of the draft process.
