Preview

Chelsea travel to Paris in their best form of the season, having just beaten Newcastle United 5-1 on Saturday. Under interim manager Guus Hiddink, the Blues are playing disciplined, smart football and creating plenty of opportunities for striker Diego Costa, who has rediscovered his scoring touch.

There are reasons to believe in the Blues' chances, although PSG enter the contest as huge favourites for good reason. Les Parisiens lead the Ligue 1 standings by a huge margin, have looked like possible Champions League favourites for months and have been able to rest their key players for this fixture in the past few weeks.

Meanwhile, the Blues will have some key absentees, per Andrew Gibney of Bleacher Report:

Kurt Zouma and John Terry have been Chelsea's two best centre-backs throughout the 2015-16 campaign, and both will miss Tuesday's match. Gary Cahill is expected to start, and he will likely be paired with full-back Branislav Ivanovic, who has the versatility to slide inside but hasn't played in a central role all that much in the recent past.

His opponent on Tuesday? Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been scoring for fun of late. Per WhoScored.com, he has scored at least once in eight of his last 10 appearances, and Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois believes he'll be extra motivated for this clash, as he told Canal+ (h/t Goal's David Manuca):

"

With the red card against us last year, Ibrahimovic will want revenge against the Chelsea players.

But there are also two, with Chelsea seeking revenge for last year's result.

This year we want to win this game. For both clubs, to go out in this round, it is not good enough.

Both want to go far in the Champions League. We know that Paris has a very strong team, it will not be easy.

"

Betting on a certain player to score is never safe, particularly in ties played out over two legs. Teams will often be cautious and feel things out during the first leg, but don't expect Les Parisiens to follow suit. Chelsea have an impressive pedigree in Europe, and despite their poor 2015-16 campaign, they remain a dangerous squad in a knockout format.

Expect PSG to come out firing in an attempt to build a nice lead before the return leg in London, giving Ibrahimovic a good chance to get on the scoresheet. Against a makeshift back four, the Sweden international should be able to find the target.

According to OptaJean, the loss of Terry will hurt Chelsea's chances in more ways than one―they've not fared well without their veteran leader of late:

Picking Les Parisiens to win this match would be a safe bet, but unfortunately, the oddsmakers have made such a bet virtually redundant, handing the hosts even odds to win. Backing a draw could be far more lucrative.

Per Eurosport UK, the Blues are unbeaten since Hiddink took charge of the club, and they should be able to score goals against PSG.

Costa looks as good as ever, and he'll go up against a defensive unit facing a bit of turmoil. Full-back Serge Aurier has been suspended for lashing out at manager Laurent Blanc and some of his team-mates, something that will have an impact on the entire squad, per Hamish MacKay of the Daily Mirror.

As for Tuesday's other match between Benfica and Zenit, Bleacher Report UK's Sam Tighe believes the hosts will walk away with the win:

Zenit looked sensational during the group stages. But the Russian Premier League is still in its winter break, and the club hasn't played a competitive match in months. With form not on their side, Zenit should struggle against a strong and experienced Benfica squad.
