WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from February 11

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 11, 2016

Every week on Bleacher Report, I take an in-depth look at WWE SmackDown to recap the results, offer analysis and grade the matches, segments and anything else that takes place on the show, as well as make a few predictions for future events.

We're just over a week away from Fastlane, so most of what we saw tonight had to do with storylines that will be featured on the pay-per-view.

The highly anticipated rematch between Chris Jericho and AJ Styles was the main event, but every other match was enjoyable on some level, making this one of the better episodes of SmackDown in recent memory.

A lot of major players like Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose and The New Day were absent, but this allowed other talents to step into the spotlight.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on this week's SmackDown.

Chris Jericho and AJ Styles vs. Adam Rose and Curtis Axel

1 of 7

For the second week in a row, SmackDown opened with a match instead of a promo segment. Well, it seemed like it was going to happen that way, but things eventually got out of hand.

Before Styles and Jericho could even lock up, The Social Outcasts came out to interrupt. Bo Dallas was absent once again, and Slater attributed this to him recording an album as Bo Rida.

Styles and Jericho cleared the ring, and a tag team match featuring the two of them against Adam Rose and Curtis Axel took place instead.

Y2J and The Phenomenal One tried to upstage each other by seeing who could perform the same moves better. This led to some disagreement, which Rose used to his advantage.

Jericho and Styles eventually got back the upper hand and picked up the win, but that didn't stop Y2J from hitting his partner with a Codebreaker. This was a fun way to kick off the show and set up the main event.

Grade: B

Notes and Highlights

  • Jericho looks like the last guy in the world to still use a Flowbee to cut his hair. He would make a great Red Rooster impostor.
  • Styles' pyro needs to be timed better to match his entrance. It goes off too early.
  • It's amazing how Jericho can take months off at a time and return just as good as when he left.
  • Some might see Jericho showing some heel characteristics, but this looked more like a veteran trying to establish his dominance more than anything else.

The Dudley Boyz

2 of 7

Bubba Ray and D-Von came out to a ring surrounded by tables to explain why they turned on The Usos and returned to their heel roots.

Bubba Ray was one of the best heels TNA had during his run with the company, and it's great to see him back to being an unapologetic bad guy.

The Dudleys said they were sick of hearing about Daniel Bryan's retirement and being looked at as a nostalgia act.

Bubba said they were never going to put anyone through a table again because they are sick of the fans chanting for furniture instead of hearing their own names.

This was a quick promo, but Bubba and D-Von did a great job establishing themselves as heels and generating heat with the crowd.

Grade: B+

Notes and Highlights

  • Bubba has an insane amount of scars on his head. You could really see them during the close-up shots.
  • You could tell WWE had to edit a lot of the crowd's responses to make it seem like The Dudley Boyz were being booed on the way to the ring.

Sasha Banks vs. Naomi

3 of 7

Becky Lynch sat with the commentary team while her new ally, Sasha Banks, battled her former Team B.A.D. partner, Naomi.

Banks and Naomi had a physical match that spanned two segments. They worked well together despite never having faced each other in a televised bout.

We have always known Naomi was capable of great things, but this felt like the first time in quite awhile she was given the opportunity to show everyone what she can do.

Tamina got involved, so Lynch tried to help even the odds, only to be overpowered and taken out. Banks was able to put Tamina down with a kick to the face and return to the ring to finish off Naomi to pick up the win.

This was a great way to make Banks look like the star she is destined to be. It will be interesting to see what happens at Fastlane when we see these four women battle in a tag team match.

Grade: B+

Notes and Highlights

  • Banks is a great example of someone being cheered so much they were forced to turn babyface. The crowd loves her too much to boo her.
  • Lynch is decent on the mic, but she seemed slightly uncomfortable on commentary.
  • These four women must keep WWE's resident colorist busy. It was like a rainbow of hair dye in the ring.

The Wyatt Family

4 of 7

The Wyatt Family came out to deliver a promo, and it was a return to form for Bray Wyatt. His promos used to be so much more substantial than they have been in recent months, but this week he proved he still has what it takes to deliver a mesmerizing speech.

He used Greek mythology and compared his clan to gods and titans. He didn't speak for long, but his words carried weight.

Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman each got a chance to say a few words, but it was Wyatt who sold this segment with charisma and gravitas.

They didn't necessarily target a specific person, but some vague references to The Undertaker were made, so it's possible The Deadman could be targeted by the group again.

Grade: A-

The Cosmic Wasteland vs. Neville and Lucha Dragons

5 of 7

Neville and Stardust reignited their feud from last year in a six-man tag match featuring The Ascension and The Lucha Dragons.

Stardust and his cronies attacked their opponents before the bell rang to get the early advantage, but Kalisto led the charge in a comeback, and the good guys picked up the win after Konnor took the Salida Del Sol from Kalisto, a Swanton Bomb from Sin Cara and a Red Arrow from Neville.

This match could have been longer, but the fast pace and exciting offense from the babyfaces made it entertaining. It will be interesting to see if this is a one-time thing or if a feud develops between Neville and Stardust again.

Grade: B

Notes and Highlights

  • Neville should have used Kalisto and Sin Cara's trampoline to enter the ring too. It would have looked cool if all three men had flipped over the top rope.
  • Sin Cara returned to the original color scheme he debuted with. This was also the first time his outfit didn't match Kalisto's.
  • If WWE uses The Cosmic Wasteland more consistently, they could be a good stable. They bring something different to the table.

AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho

6 of 7

The first time these two men faced each other, it was a friendly competition, but this time Styles and Jericho looked like it was a much more personal battle.

They engaged in a game of one-upmanship, with neither man able to control the other for very long. They used just about every trick in their respective playbooks to prove who was the better wrestler.

After a hard-fought contest, Jericho managed to pick up the win. Some might see this as a mistake, but it's actually the best thing in the long run.

Styles isn't some newcomer who needs a series of pointless wins to get over. He is a world-renowned talent who deserves to be in the ring with living legends like Jericho.

Trading wins will almost certainly lead to a tiebreaker at Fastlane, and there is a good chance they will steal the show.

Grade: A

Notes and Highlights

  • Mauro Ranallo made a joke about Caddyshack 2 not being as good as the original. Truer words have never been spoken.
  • The reversal from the Walls of Jericho into the Calf Crusher was cool.
  • Knowing the Japanese names of certain wrestling moves makes Ranallo's commentary even more interesting.

Final Thoughts and Predictions

7 of 7

SmackDown is usually a show filled with hot and cold segments, but this week's episode didn't seem to have a single weak point.

Every match was entertaining for different reasons, every promo was on point and we saw some real storyline development in a few feuds. It's rare for a WWE show to come together so well these days.

Jericho and Styles had the match of the night, but Naomi and Banks also provide some solid entertainment. We're just over a week away from Fastlane, so this week's predictions will revolve around the pay-per-view.

Predictions

  • Jericho and Styles will have a tiebreaker at Fastlane.
  • The Usos will face The Dudley Boyz in a tag team match.
  • Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns will brawl before Fastlane.
  • Paige will return at Fastlane or the following night to pursue the Divas title.
  • The Wyatt Family will interfere in a match at Fastlane to set up a new feud for WrestleMania 32.
