WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from February 10

Erik BeastonFeb 11, 2016

The February 10 episode of NXT is in the books, and the biggest winners from the broadcast are undeniably the women of the brand.

In the night's main event, Bayley and Carmella battled for the NXT Women's Championship—two best friends were forced into war, with the allure of gold fueling them. Titleholder Bayley successfully retained the title, but the events that occurred after the bout demonstrated the wealth of stories that exist in the women's division and the number of compelling characters it touts.

Eva Marie and Nia Jax assaulted both champion and challenger after the match, as the reality television star and her bodyguard laid waste to the popular babyfaces as fans erupted into a chorus of boos. But Asuka made the save before things could get too out of hand, with her menacing stare intimidating the heels out of the ring.

But she was not finished, staring down Bayley and insinuating that she has championship aspirations of her own.

The final three minutes of that segment really hammered home the fact that NXT has taken the time to develop its roster of female competitors so that each one has a different character, there are layers upon layers of stories and everyone is over with the fans.

That is something fans have not had the privilege of seeing in any mainstream, national brand before, including WWE. It helps make NXT unique and, at the same time, destination programming for those fans of women's wrestling whose desire for that art form has been unfulfilled for too long.

There were other winners from Wednesday's broadcast.

A so-called "indy darling" made his presence felt against one of the top contenders in all of NXT, while another Diva re-established herself as one of the most promising young performers on the roster.

Some were unlucky, though, earning "loser" status for the week—as a certain "Drifter" found out.

Baron Corbin defeated Johnny Gargano
The Hype Bros defeated John Skyler and Corey Hollis
Alexa Bliss defeated Cameron
Elias Samson defeated Jesse Sorensen
NXT Women's champion Bayley defeated Carmella

Winner: Johnny Gargano

As the underdog babyface who used his speed and elusiveness to evade punishment and suffering at the hands of Baron Corbin, Johnny Gargano was fantastic early on Wednesday night. As the match progressed, he became a legitimate threat to a Corbin victory, capitalizing on his shifted focus and arrogance to nearly score the previously unfathomable upset.

That did not happen, as "Mr. Wrestling" succumbed to End of Days, but that hardly erased the tremendous showing by the indy standout.

Gargano may not be signed to an actual developmental contract at this point, but he has been allowed the opportunity to look strong against NXT full-timers, which has elevated his profile both in WWE and in promotions across the country.

That he looked so good against a top contender to the NXT Championship only helped bolster his reputation as one of the more promising stars to appear on the weekly show.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

The fierce Diva scored a victory over Cameron on Wednesday night, but that hardly explains why she has earned recognition as a winner on this week's show.

Everything about Bliss screams "star." Not only is she beautiful, but she has mastered the facial expressions and body language that go into crafting a complete performer. Add to that her constantly improving in-ring work, and you have the recipe for a major player in the NXT women's division.

She was clearly the superior worker in her match against the former main-roster Diva, showing aggression and intensity while keeping the crowd invested in the heel-versus-heel match.

A few months back, Bliss was involved in a feud with Bayley over the NXT Women's Championship but was unceremoniously shoved to the background in favor of Eva Marie. It was a major disappointment that could have discouraged the young performer.

But it did not. She has bounced back and has been phenomenal since then, improving every aspect of her performance and remaining one of the top women's wrestlers on the roster. Big things await her if she is patient.

Loser: Elias Samson

"Drift away."

Not exactly the sentiment "The Drifter" Elias Samson wants to elicit from fans, but that is where he stands with the NXT Universe at this point. His performances in a handful of enhancement matches have done nothing to create any real interest in him or his underdeveloped character.

That his in-ring performance was so uninspired, as he relied solely on strikes and chokes involving his knee before finishing his opponent off with a generic neckbreaker, did not help.

Every aspect of Samson's performance feels weak in comparison to the dynamic and energetic wrestlers who make up the NXT roster.

Perhaps that is at the direction of Triple H and NXT management. He has been portrayed on commentary as a cerebral, unpredictable and somewhat unhinged Superstar, so maybe his lack of energy is on purpose. Even if that is the case, it has severely hurt the perception the audience has of him.

Samson has been a major disappointment so far, especially given the pre-taped vignettes that accompanied his arrival.
